Is it time for the Internet to get blacked?

Today the standard is black text on white background. We all know that displaying white on a monitor requires more energy than displaying black. Therefore, in our time of awareness it is only logical that we invert the colors. White text on black background is also easier on the eyes.

What does /g/ think? Has there been any calculations made on how much energy this would save on a global level?

So what you are saying is we need more white on black and less black on white?

Normalfags ruined green on black terminals, I don't want them to ruin white on black terminals also.

Why is so much porn black on white. I'm not one to believe pol on things, but fuck. Is the demand so high that it justifies filling half the landing page with the shit?

This would only work on AMOLED screens. Most LCD screens have a unified backlight across the screen so a fully black screen wouldn't save much more energy than a fully white screen.

Google did it on their homepage for 24 hours for an "Earth Day" a few years back. Apparently it did save a lot of energy.

Also true for CRT. Barely extinct in in the West so wouldn't have much of an effect here. I guess maybe in Africa and Asia, CRT is still common? I don't know. When it comes to LCD it makes no difference, I even recall reading an article once that a full black monitor consumed slightly more than a full white one. If it did save energy it would've made a significant impact though.

The fact is that black text on white is better for reading in lit areas. Like most people's places. Or outside. (This is why I think anyone who uses a dark theme on Clover either doesnt go outside or is a total fucking faggot).

So what you should do if you're having eye strain is:

A) Turn on a fucking light
B) Open some fucking blinds
C) If and only if neither of those are an option, use dark theming.
