The only flaw I found so far is I can't make it read .filename folders, so that my phone doesn't read every album cover I have.

Been using Mortplayer the past few years because it's free and it does this by default.
I only use Local playback so Pulsar is good for my needs. I've never tried other options because I've never needed other features.

spotify lets you store stuff on your device, and it buffers at least the whole song that you're playing.
you'd have to be in the tunnel for several minutes for this to be an issue. or longer than a month if you'd saved the song.
