if you wipe the drive and do a clear OS install it will go back to its correct speeds. it is a firmware thing on the 840 sadly. i am 20TB in on my 850 EVO and no slow downs at all
>>
>>55008704
Yes, the 840s are trash, we all know it.
What's more important is, do the 850s last?

>>

only for about a month or two. then you have to reinstall again even after Samsung's firmware "fix" that swaps data around on the NAND to prevent the problem but doesn't actually do anything.

I will probably just replace the damn thing. It's a piece of shit and another 250gb 850 is like 60 dollars.

it's something like mix of prefetch, delayed write and readahead. Commonly used files are stored in a ramdisk, and ramdisk also is used as write buffer, so it appears to user that wrtie speed is faster. It reports to OS that writing has finished, while it still copies data from that ramdisk to disk.

regardless, impatience is perfectly fine, and if you need that 30gb VM copied in 15s instead of 80s to satisfy you then it is money well spent.

for most, i don't think waiting 1.33 minutes for a file to copy is an issue. it's only a problem when you have to wait 10, 20, 30+ minutes.

Yes, maybe you could have even saved a whole day worth of time over an entire year!

I just don't understand the point of the Pro or M.2 SSDs if you're not writing hundreds of gigs per day.

when using RAPID mode you don't actually write things to the drive at 5000MB/s. It does basically nothing except make big numbers.
