With an $800 budget, what's a good current CPU/chipset to build a gaming PC upon? I already have GPU, cases, peripherals and stuff - just need some good guts.

Assuming it's American, go with an i7 and some sort of z170 mobo. If you're not going to overclock, don't get the K SKU and get an h170 chipset motherboard.
