Alright,
We constantly beg for quality threads with quality discussion, so I'll take the initiative and start one.

I'm a moderate linux user. I'm about to install gentoo, and actually customize it this time. I want to know should I use Systemd or OpenRC ?
I know Systemd is significantly faster, but it still gets flamed. Is this just the geizers of IT bitching to stay relevant or is it actually fucked?

systemd catches flak because it's in the early stages of becoming an operating system
>>
In my experience runit > openrc > anything > systemd. that's in terms of speed too.
>>
I still use SysV, because I'm on Slackware.

Who gives a shit about boot times though, doesn't everyone just use sleep/hibernate these days? I do.

I've never used SystemD, but I really like flat text files running as scripts like V, and apparently D takes a different approach, so I probably won't like it compared to OpenRC.

Ive been on gentoo for 12 years. 11 using openrc, 1 using systemd.

systemd is better.
>>
What about init scripting? Is it any different?

Wtf even.

Get the fuck out, paid Microsoft troll. systemd won, there is no reasonable argument against it, and the only reason you start these threads is to try to discredit GNU.

FUCK OFF.

Use systemd.

The support is better at this point, and its a dependency for a lot of shit so eventually you will feel the need to switch anyway.

nope

Daily reminder that systemd has no effect on GNU, only Linux.
>>
runit is best for what I use
>>
Systemd is a init and supervision manager
openrc is just the second, you use it with sysvinit, it only replaces sysv-rc
>>
Tried to install runit in my devuan boxen for keks but it didn't werk
maybe I'll try again with the source package if I van be assed to write init scripts for system services

Runit wouldn't boot on my machine last time I've tried it (Void live)

And this is what you call one? Every major Linux distro has adopted systemd for at least a year by now. This argument was spent before then. At this point it does not matter.
