I've heard you can download any videos from any site without using extensions on any browser. Is this true? How do you do it?

You can't download DRM protected ones.
On chrome you just open developer tools, go to the network tab, and then copy the url for the video and pass it to curl.

rtmpdump will (most times) help with that, you can emulate handshake and stuff manually, if you really need it.
