How do you choose the hardware you buy?

For gpu's i grab the one with the least edgy box and the one with the most price/perf

For everything else just what i like

Best warranty partnered with reliability. Don't want to use the warranty if I don't have to.

I buy whatever's the best value in the long run. I want parts that I can hold on to, especially since CPU tech is stagnating nowadays.
>>
>>54937212
mobo: latest socket
case: based on mobo
RAM: whatever showed up first when I search for the clock speed sorted by lowest price
PSU: Corsair or nothing
GPU: bechmarks can run current games at 60fps + whichever comes with the free game I like
CPU: latest for that socket OR cheapest if new architecture based on same socket is coming out
>>
I set a flat budget first, and work backwards from there depending on whatever I want the computer in question to do.

I don't have brand loyalty, which helps when it comes to GPUs and CPUs. I pick a part that looks good on paper, and then read up on any relevant benchmarks and reviews. If I don't like what I hear, I go back and pick another.

It's not hard, and quite enjoyable.

Establish Budget.
Establish Purpose.
From there it just kinda falls into place.

I think the hardest thing to decide is the mobo. Socket? How many sata ports do I need? Do I need an M.2? What case am I using (form factor)? SLI or crossfire? Mem slots? How's the audio on the thing? Warranty?

RAM:Corsair usually for my builds. For other people it's whatever the fuck is cheaper and works.
PSU: Corsair or EVGA for myself and customers.
GPU: Whatever the hell is the best price/performance and then whatever is cheapest. I only use them for like 2.5 years before selling them.
CPU: i5 or i7 for myself. i3 or AMD for others unless they're gaming. Get the newest or if the difference in performance doesn't justify the price get the old one.

>How do you choose the hardware you buy?

well /g/ would laugh but here goes

Mobo : goodlooking and goes with my case tend to buy OC shit because better options and i OC Ram alot

CPU: I tend to buy high hertz because for me its always been usefull and yes i know the GHz war is over.

I promised my self If at anytime 4Ghz under 100w @stock if happened i would buy it i was thinking this for a long, long time because autism i need even numbers this
3.3 GHz FX6100 is overkill on everything
but autism is leading me to 6700K because its my life long dream to be at 4GHz

GPU :try to get short GPU's because i lik'em and the power saving vs decent gaming.

Most of my GPU's have been mid teir I often buy them because I can replace them and save the reminder to buy a new one next time.

I always have the money to buy High-midrange video card but after losing one on nvidia femi (where mine blew up GTX630) i'm no longer keen on getting the mid-high end because i see them as shortlived and hot & power hungry

however when the 1070 and Rx480 came out it put most of my fears to bed.

I'm new to the enthuist teir i'm not sure what i should do.

God fucking damn it.

I don't know if you're baiting or retarded. If you're retarded, it's fucking moe and almost makes me want to help you.

What are you currently using? What are your specs?

IDK

but i owned this the

>I don't know if you're baiting or retarded
pardon?
what am i being retarded and/or baiting on?

GTX630 OC 4GB was a housefire that's why it didn't stay on the market for long.

I got this in september 2013 with Rev1 (the wost one)
only the 2GB version was safe for selling.

It has series of problems with poor capicator caps in the midrange at that time.
that's why mine caught fire it happened alot to a shit load of people, and it was nothing to do with the fans it was the shit caps they used in Femi.

none of the modern cards have this problem.

to be fair there was a revision Rev2 that fixed all of the problems of this one
just before the 700 series but the damage had been done by then it was not enough sadly.

I still miss this card though it was my last VGA card/ nvidia I ever owned and now i'm sad because I legit liked this card.
it went well with my asrock mobo and bulldozer and at the time I had a thing for blue PCB.

Everything that's cheap
>>
>Is the hardware black/gray
Yes

>Is the hardware good
Yes

Then I buy it. I spent $599 on my motherboard because it was completely black and performed good.

Establish "use cases". For instance, I wanted to play BF4 on 1080p resolution. I've checked benchmarks and compared the differences between high and ultra. At least for me, there was hardly a difference, while comparing videos / screenshots.
So to sum up, I wanted a GPU / CPU, which:
- plays BF4
- high quality (ultra not necessary)
- 1920x1080
- keep stable at 60FPS
So I've decided to pick up GTX960 / i5-4460.
Surely, I could pick it up smarter and cheaper, but at least I've scratched 970 and higher.
The reason why I've skipped AMD solutions is higher wattage, so it's up to consideration here.

Other things to consider:
- do You intend to store music / porn / comics / etc? perhaps implement RAID for redundancy? consider mobo / disks
- do You intend to toy with VMs, some labs perhaps? consider more RAM, disks
- IDEs, graphic studios? consider more monitors, see how many outputs in GPU are possible to utilize

and et cetera

tl;dr
- Write down, what do You want to do.
- Specify it as much as possible.
- Pick up parts which will satisfy Your requirements
- DO NOT PAY for more that You need.
>>
>>54937212

I just pick the thing with the longest lifespan and decent performance
>>
Set up a budget
Find the parts to meet budget or underbudget on pcpartpicker

adjust based on purpose from there.

Currently need to set up a decently cheap server for a research project for my professor the upcoming semester. Thinking of attempting in the 1k range (under his grant money's expense, of course)
