Is it possible to run Android without any google software on it.
For example:
How to get latest APK versions of apps e.g. Firefox, Skype, Citymapper, Whatsapp, etc..
If I download APK of Citymapper and install it. Will the maps even work?

if you mean ASOP, yes, but you need a custom rom
Actually yes, it is possible
Just install a custom ROM (such as CyanogenMod) and don't install Google Apps. Never use localisation and don't use any Google service. You can download Aptoide or F-Droid to get all the APKs you need
Also use an AdBlocker, most ads are shown by a Google service
Now observe how shitty it is to live without all of these, and flash the stock ROM of your device back again

not op, but ubuntu touch, jolla os, etc. aren't viable on this day. hope it changes, but stuck with android without gapps for the time being
