What tech memes did you fall for?
I fell for
>CE major
>thinkpads
>mechanical keyboards
>linux
the thing that said I would be superior after buying it
>>54923852
>Lisp
>Linux
>C
>Assembly
>>54923917
lmao none of those are used in industry

i'm going to buy an r9 480
>CS major
>Linux
that's about it desu.
it's not like i listen to you faggots for advice or anything.
>linux is a meme.
Just got hired to migrate the client's company from windows server to suse/rhel. All the others you listed are true tho.
running debian on a thinkpad x200 that I'm planning on librebooting. meme enough?
>>54923852
>Mechanical Keyboards (selling it on ebay now)
>USB DAC (send it back and got my money)

>Thinkpad (got a T440, but Im happy)
>>54923852

mechanical keyboards aren't a meme, friend
>bought 4 thinkpads
>no lenovo thinkpads
>upgraded all of them
>IBM flat panel LCD from 2005
>thinkcenter desktop
>installed gentoo, 3 times
>gave up on gentoo, moved to ubuntu and mint
>still using XP on one of them
>windows 2000 on another
>bought a CB3 170$ chromebook
>bought the "thinkpad of cars", aka a 1990-1995 buick
honestly, im pretty content, worked out pretty well. Except my buick is leaking gas and the thermostat is broken and if i idle i get to about 200 degrees, thats more of a fire risk than owning a dothan pentium
>BSc CS
Unemployed and angry.
I fell for the Java meme.
>such java life, javadocs, everything clear and human readable and understandable
>tfw spaghetti longer than expected, pseudo-typechecking generics, maven dependency hell
At least it do fine multithreading with easier tools than I used in C.
And there is higher salary too..
>>54923852
>ubuntu
>win7
>win10
>opensuse
>arch
>gentoo
>few other mainstream distros
I kinda liked freeBSD, but every fucking time i'm back with my comfy OS X 10.9 hackintosh
>mechanical keyboards
>Raspbery Pi
>Ultrawide monitor
>gtx 970
>>54924180
>Raspbery Pi
Thats not a meme
>>54924097
>And there is higher salary too..
Are you sure about that? I would have said C gives better salary since any third-world pajeet is capable of writing Java code now.
>>54923917
fuck
i fell for all of those except lisp
assembly and c are good for os development so i might give that a go
>m50x
>objective 2
>>54923934
Linux is heavily used in industry, it is a foundation for infrastructure of tech companies, big and small.
Lisp lives on through Javascript. I didn't need extensive studying to start working with JS because I learned Lisp long ago.
C and Assembly are occasionally useful.
>>54924290
I think these memes turned out better than expected.
>>54923852
I love my x220
I only got a mech after my brother got one and I got a chance to feel it. I got a ducky shines original in brown switches and it was pretty overpriced at 140 but its still superior to rubbers.
I only use linux because I'm sick of microsoft's bullshit. I use stock xubuntu because I don't care about customizability or total freedom.
additionally I fell for the FW900 meme back in the day and I'm still loving it 6 years later.
Linux is not a meme? Former windows user. I was reluctant to switch to Linux because of the constant use of the command line. One day I said fuck it and installed Ubuntu. After spending 2 whole months with a Linux system, I realized how easy it is (no wonder big Corps us it a lot ) to diagnose.
The built-in tools . Oh my good. It's the perfect toolbox.
It's really customizable and lightweight. Unlike with Windows, on Linux, you're FREE to do as you like. Tweak it as you like. Fuck it up as you like. It's up to you.
So many options. I installed Debian netin after four months. DEs are bloat. I tried other distributions but I always come back to Debian.
>>54924094
You think that's bad, I went for a master's degree and now all I do is work at google.
> thinkpad
I've dropped it a couple times, no issues, really durable. Had an issue with the hard drive, could easily replace it. Cheap, but works perfectly fine for compiling code etc. Good buy once I put an SSD into it.
> mechanical keyboard
This one's really excessive, but it is quite nice having a keyboard with a really good build quality and caps. It's a weird comparison but it's like typing on a keyboard made of stone.
> Raspberry Pi
Makes for a really cheap web server, can leave it on 24/7 without worrying about excessive energy costs.
>>54923852
>CS degree
>functional programming
>Thinkpad
>chink phone
Thinkpad turned out alright
Is CS degree really meme? If you actually work hard at it? I either hear, "Bro, I got a sweet job before I even graduated, easy", or "Unemployed for a year, shoot me."
>>54924873
/g/ calls pretty much anything to do with education a meme
if its what you want to do, do it
>>54924070

If you tried to use it as a PC you're an idiot. Else-wise it is not a meme
>>54923852
>Smartphone
>Broadband internet
>Widescreen TV
>Digital music
I feel like such a fool.
>>54923852
>Linux
Spent several years on time sink distros like Arch, then hopped between Arch, Manjaro, Fedora, Debian and Windows.
In the end I became fed up with fixing errors and problems of Linux, deleted all my Linux ISO's, stopped seeding them, fucked off all my old HDD's, scrapped my old PC and started over with a new laptop with SSD and Windows 10.
Never looked back. Unless you are compiling regularly, Linux is a threat to mental peace and stability.

How's 2006 treating you?
Whenever someone complains about Linux being to hard the first thing I think is that they are just too stupid for it. I was using Slackware when I was 15 a long time ago and shit was much more rough back then. Linux is simple as fuck now.
Linux is a tool for specific problems. It is a great server os but shit for gaming and general desktop use.
