It wasn't necessarily boring. Just fucking tedious. And I normally enjoy slow movies. The conversation with gene hackman and also tarkovsky's nostalghia are two of my favorite films.

This thing was just shit though. If it was made today by some unknown director then no one would have given it a chance

If Terry Malick were to make a similar film it would probably be hailed as a masterpiece.
You probably watched it on the wrong mindset. I strongly recommend you give it another shot, it truly is a work of art.
