How do I conveniently benchmark two graphics cards I have lying around? One card is amd and the other one is nvidia
If I boot up arch linux and backup an eMMc with windows and UEFI to a file using 'dd', and then later write it out using 'dd' again to the same eMMc, will it resume working as it did before?
Stupid question here.
Google wallet banned me from buying shit from the app store. The reason is honestly unknown. If I knew the reason, I knew how to fix it and I would tell you guys because idgaf anonymous basket weaver forum. But I honestly do not know why.
I contacted them and they asked me for verification documents. After one week or so I gave in and send those jews a copy of my drivers license and bank transfer. And then I got the message it was declined and they didn't gave me a reason because blabla we reserve the right without notice this and that.
I tried contacting them ever since but they dont reply to me.
Then I made a new emailadress at google or a new account and tried to buy something from the app store again but then I got the same fucking problems.
Does anyone know how I can fix it so I can buy something from the app store again?
I will tell this again: i honestly did not do anything wrong/illegal/fraudulent. I googled and more people are experiencing these issues, but google cant help or doesnt want to.
If anyone knows how I can solve this without me formatting my entire phone/buying a new phone and making a new identity through a new IP or whatever is needed I would be appreciate it.
thanks

So I have a question about salt/hashes.
Basically, I understand that when you enter a password a unique salt is added, the whole thing is hashed, and then that output is compared with whatever database the website has, and if the hashes match it determines your password is valid.
My question is how it knows which salt to add before it has confirmed if you entered the correct password or not.
Is the salt associated with the username?
>>54838888
The salt is stored with the hash.
Nice numbers btw

Will be powered by a 1080
>>54838908
>the salt is stored with the hash
So if you enter a password into a website it will have the salt also stored separately as plain text?
Wouldn't that not work though because I thought the password+salt gets hashed, so even if it had the salt stored as plain text it wouldn't be able to determine the full hash.

My coursework requires coding and such. Will installing Arch or another linux thingy (I wanna rice and stuff) affect using IDEs and such.
Or should I get that program that allows me to dual boot OS's so I can use 2.
So this whole automatic update to windows 10 has gotten me pretty salty. If I were to start learning how to use Linux, what kind of stuff can I not do w/ Linux that I'm probably use to doing?
I'm mainly worried about games. CK2, HoI3/HoI4, the occasional shooter games, stuff on steam, etc.
Can Linux do pretty much everything but games?
>>54838933
>I thought the password+salt gets hashed
They do. The database entry probably looks something similar to this:Username | Password | Salt
Anon | ac4f3... | 28c4
The Password entry is the hash of the user's password + 28c4. When the password is received, it is combined with the salt and hashed to produce ac4f3...
>>54838994
I can't accurately comment on the IDE's being affected in any way, but I don't think there will be any difference.
As for dual booting, you don't need any third party program to do it. You would just need to partition your drive and install one OS on one and the other OS on the other partition.

Since you mentioned you'll be getting a 1080 have you looked at the 4K benchmarks? It doesn't reliably hit 60fps in most games so personally I wouldn't recommend going with 4K over 1440p, but ultimately it's still your choice.

Is there some way I can keep track of all the files being created, and what's creating them, on Win7? I'm hoping for my next installation to be my last Windows installation, short of a motherboard failure, and I want to try to manually remove any bullshit programs leave behind when I uninstall them. Same question for Linux, I'm going to start switching over and I want to keep my installation going as long as possible.
I need a cheap ~120gb SSD for my poorfab t60 thinkpad. What brands/model do you guys recommend ?
can you redpill me on the amd GPU made by sapphire ? How comes their prices are so low compared to the other brands ?
Also when can we expect polaris ?

Auditing
Let's say someone has some files and creates .7z archive in 7-zip with a particular set of settings. Then I take the exact same files arranged in exactly the same way (same names/directory structure/etc) and make a .7z archive on my computer, using the exact same settings they did.
Will I get the same .7z archive that they have? If I hash checked both would they come out equal? If no, does anyone know why not? Is there some randomness involved in the algorithm that would cause this, or is it some other factor based on differences between our systems or the time we do it or something else?
>>54842186
If you use the exact same command and they are identical files, then yes
>>54842252
Alright, that's good to know. Often found dead torrents with files I had but archived differently and wondered if I could seed them if I could figure out what settings the guy used, never bothered to try though.

I was getting BSOD when playing games on win 7 64bit. After some bsods here and there, the pc won't boot. I'm getting nonstop long beeps. The event manager was saying critical error kernel power 41.
specs:
amd phenom II x4 960T
8gb ram
gtx 970
gigabyte 970a-ud3 mobo
corsair hx650 psu
The mobo's manual says continuous long beeps means gpu not properly inserted. But
I tried switching the GPU with a 6850, but the problem persisted. Also the 970's logo lights up when I turn the PC on. Already tried switching the memory sticks, still the same issue.
whata going on?
Anyone know how can i align ul in center while keeping the text align to the left? Everywhere i see, they use text-align:center which is something i dont want.
I'm looking for a monitor that's at least 1080p, going to be used for reading, software development, and gaming. So my laptop is starting to get old and outdated and beat to shit, and I'm thinking about getting a new one bc I just got my tax return. Problem is, I'm dirt poor and the most I could do for a new laptop would be 300 bucks.
I used to have a nice little thinkpad, but that kicked the bucket about a year and a half, two years ago and since then I've been using a cheapo chromebook. I don't need the powerhouse of a computer my thinkpad was back when I was constantly doing technology oriented things, but it would be nice to at least have some ability to do that stuff again. Messing around with programs, some network testing, maybe some image editing, just standard tinkering. My chromebook isn't capable of that, but I don't know what else is out there.
Also, what would be a good OS to put on what I end up getting? I used to use arch but that's a pita sometimes, and I remember using backtrack/kali the last time I did any pentest stuff. Is that still a good choice? pls I've basically been out of the computing loop for the past year or two so idk what's going on
What makes that a CPU or GPU consume more or less power ?
okay i know this shouldn't be happening..
i thought the array class was managed?
>>54843384
What are the physical requirements for the laptop?
You should be able to get an x220 or t420 in good condition for under $300.
Kali is still probably the best for pentesting.
As for daily driver, give debian a shot.
I'm gonna buy a new pc with a GTX1080 this fall.
What processor should I get with it for the best gaming performance that won't cost a ridiculous amount? 6700k?
>>54843551
I think a 6500K would be sufficient. Most games aren't very CPU reliant anyway.
What is the black, long PCIe slot on my motherboard for? It says it is a PCIe 3.0 x16 (max at x4 mode) slot. So I'm assuming that means it only has the bandwidth of an x4 slot (or is it more proper to say it has 4 lanes?), but uses an x16 physical connector for some reason? What's the purpose of doing that? My only guess is that it's for crossfire because my motherboard says it supports that and has no other slots for a second GPU, but that makes no sense if it's not a regular x16 slot.
>>54843608
yeah it's for crossfire, and yeah crossfire doesn't make use of full x16 for both cards.
>>54843512
I'm used to a smaller screen, my last two have been 10-12in.
I have lying around an old t500, but the battery is useless and the screen hinge is shattered, not to mention it's gigantic and heavy. My old lenovo is an x230 that physically is ok looking, but the battery again is kaput and the wireless card is nonfunctional to the point I can't even see it when I lspci or check wicd to see if it's visible there. Not to mention booting a cuckbuntu usb drive with a billion drivers on it and it still is like the thing doesn't exist, so that's fucked.
Pic related are my current laptops, the white one being the one I'm using right now
Is getting a used laptop really a good idea? I've only ever bought new laptops, or found old ones scavenging through a local scrapyard
>>54843662
Buying used is generally alright if it's refurbished. I don't have any experience actually buying used laptops straight from random people, but that's something I'd stay away from.
>>54843649
So if I only have one GPU, it'll only work in the gray slot? Does that work because Crossfire only sends some information to the second GPU, it's not like running two GPUs at full capacity? What about Nvidia's SLI, I know that uses a physical bridge you attach to tops of the GPUs and doesn't use the motherboard like Crossfire does. Could I do SLI on my motherboard, or does it need two regular x16 slots?
>>54843718
yeah, I took a look at my CL and it seemed sketchy as fuck. I bet 90% of that stuff is hot anyway
d-does anyone here know anything about the lenovo ideapad 100s? it's affordable, but idk if the thinkpad quality crosses over to the ideapads

isn't there a cheap device that tests the state of a PSU?
Is it possible to take the disk from an external hard drive and put in inside a PC?
>>54843867
It'll work in either slot, you can put a PCIe x16 GPU in an x1 slot and it'll work. You should stick with the gray slot though.
Is there an alternative to Genymotion that supports bluetooth emulation and networking?
I don't want to pay 417 bucks for a two week project. That's more than I earn in a month.
>>54836631

>>54843961
I have to stick to the gray slot, my PSU doesn't leave enough room for a GPU to be in the black slot unless I like installed a water cooler on it, or there's a really thin GPU out there I guess. I was just curious about what that slot was for and how all this stuff works. Thanks.

It seems like a good deal, but I'd be cautious about getting an 1150 socket motherboard when 1151 is already out, you won't ever be able to upgrade the processor. The motherboard is the last thing to you'd want to skimp out on because it's the most important part to future proof given that it needs to be compatible with future upgrades of the other parts.

People here mostly do care about their privacy but at a certain point it just becomes a pain in the ass to use foss only, encrypt everything, etc.

If they want my patronage, they'll have to do better than spewing advertisements at me that eat up my time and are obnoxiously unrelated to anything I'd care about purchasing.
I get that the website relies on advertisements to pay the bills. But I refuse to subject myself to the mindless advertising schtick just so I can feel better about myself for "supporting" the site.
Luckily Anti-Adblock Killer seems to do a good job of preventing websites from detecting my adblock.
>>54843953
Yes, I actually just tested that a few days ago. I took a hard drive from an old computer and had been using it as an external hard drive by using pic related. I decided why not just take the hard drive out and install it inside my computer to use it to run Ubuntu off of it. I checked to make sure it was working inside Windows at first and all the files and shit was still there, you don't have to reformat or anything to go from using a hard drive externally to internally.
Now if you're talking about an external hard drive that you bought as an external hard drive, I'm not sure. Some of them use custom form factors I think, and possibly custom connections (not sata) as well.

Fuck if I know, was on some computer I was fixing at work. Probably some method used by a cracked copy of windows
I was waiting a while for the 6950x only to find out it would be $1,500. Figured I'd wait for release and see if I could work it in anyway and now it's $1,750. Way over the original estimation of $1K.
At this point I just want to buy one of those dual computer cases and run two setups. One with a "normal" CPU like a 6700K or low end Broadwell-E and another with some cheap Xeons, like the $60, 8-core+HT E5-2670. The normal CPU would take care of things that need high per core power and the Xeons would take anything you can just chuck cores at.
I've never messed with a server board setup in my life. Is there anything I should know or look out for? Any difficulties I'm going to run into as soon as I actually have it? I know I need a special compatible motherboard which is $300+ in this case and ECC RAM I believe. I don't even know how to offload tasks to another computer, really. I've always done it on the same computer. I've also never put two processors on the same motherboard, which I would with the two Xeons.
The more I think about it the more I realize this might actually be cheaper anyway, even if it's a bit of a hassle. I'm also open to ideas.
>>54845518
What are these "tasks"?
>>54845617
Mainly encoding, sometimes rendering.

You're really over thinking this bro. I get you want to use a dual cpu board, to brag about it in the guts/bst threads. But unless you're constantly needing 128-256GB and both processors running 100% round the clock, there is no reason to do this.
Save your money and wait for prices to drop on the next gen
I'm trying to figure out if I want to go easy mode and get an RGB light strip that has a remote control
>http://www.ebay.com/itm/311428103508
Or take the fun path of setting up an arduino board and learning how that all works. I don't think it will be a problem once I have everything I need, but it's figuring out that I find difficult right now. I need an RGB strip that is at 10.5ft long (or longer) but I'm not sure where to go from there.
Help /g/?

Both processors are actually going to be pushed constantly. The entire reason of buying them is that a semi-current i7, which I already have, just isn't cutting it.
Nevermind, I'll just spend a few days figuring everything out on Google. I know people here don't like things that aren't budget price:performance parts but it was worth a shot.

C++/algorithm question. I did a rough A* implementation and I did a temporary solution of returning a std::stack (as value) of waypoints as a result. The algorithm causes a freeze when it's used by a 100 objects in a row to find paths. How good of an improvement can I expect by correcting the copying of data to stacks? Could this be the least of my problems? Any good ideas how to make it work better for many objects?

Hi I'm an idiot from a board with Unique IDs
Is there an extension that allows me to "label" IDs?
Clicking an ID to highlight it only allows me to highlight one at a time.
Ideally I'd want to be able to write a custom label ("OP", "furfag", "mentally ill tranny" etc) so that when I see a new post in a thread I'd have an idea who it was (provided they posted before in the thread and I had labeled them).
I just installed 4chan X to check if it did this and it did not, and when I uninstalled it my native extension got screwed and I had a bitch of a time to get it working again so now I'm wary of installing 4chan extensions just to check if they can do this
