Why does it seem like mobile devices are increasing in screen resolution faster than desktops? The cheapest I can find a 1440p monitor is like $260, you can get a phone with a 1440p screen for a bit over $300, and that has a much higher pixel density on top of the cost of the cell phone parts. It's frustrating how long it's taking for monitor prices to come down.

Because smartphone screens have less surface area. This means more room for error in manufacturing which itself means better yields. There's also a much higher demand for 1440p phone screens than there are monitors.

My macbook is 2560×1600 but I spend most of my time looking at a 1366x768 19" TV with a computer plugged in. Don't want to run up those battery cycles too fast.
