Is this typical practice for Yank keyboards or a new thing?
So much wasted space.
Also, Yank return keys are the worst. Again, more wasted space.
Yanks can't remember symbols either.

Shift keys need to be big because they are often held down in conjunction with other keys. The extra space gives your finger some room to shift while you stretch for other keys.
The return key is big because it is functionally very important in programming, writing and average day to day use. It is made big so you can always know where it is and aren't at risk of misclicking.
