See the temperature ratings, what is the ideal temp, and at what temp does it fuck shit up?

t. noob
>>
>>54784454

Everyone has different way of doing things but I keep CPUs at around 70C, anything less is just unnecessary noise.

Use speedfan to make temp curves, use PWM fans that can share common signal like arctic cooling. You'll end with nearly silent PC that doesn't suck dust in all the time.

This PC is pretty alright when it boots properly. Fuck this mobo, already RMA'd first one after it completely died and this one is still flaky. Last Gigabyte I ever buy.
>>
>>54785559
Most X99 boards below $250 have issues from what I noticed, finally ended up on a higher-midrange MSI board, it's given me the least issues. (though it hasn't been without it's own)
>>
>>54785575
I wanted a 5820k and the reviews for all of the mobos were sketchy at the time so I figured I'd go cheap, how bad could it be right?

I regret it but like you said I don't know that the higher end ones would have been more reliable. Lots of complaints about boot-up issues across the board with X99 it seems. Once I'm loaded into the OS it's completely fine but something is definitely up with how this one manages boots. Not uncommon for me to have to hit the reset button two or three times. I'll update the BIOS next and hope that helps.

My problems with my MSI board have been mainly with the XMP profiles for RAM. The board doesn't want to set the correct IMC voltage for the increased RAM speeds, so I have to manually set it.

Besides that it's been pretty solid, I dislike MSI's BIOS layout compared to Asus, but anyone who knows their way around a BIOS shouldnt have any major issues.

Looking into upgrading the ram, would it be worth it? Any recommendations?
>>
>>54798096
Hi where do I apply for you to be my sugar daddy???
>>
Is the 2600k still good? I have one but haven't done anything with it
>>
>>54805069
It's adequate for gaming if overclocked to 4.2GHz+

It would be worth looking at an upgrade in a year or two, start saving
>>
>>54805158
I mean I don't have a motherboard or anything I might just sell it then. Isn't LGA 1155 not being used anymore?
>>
>>54805209
You might be able to find a cheap motherboard that won't allow overclocking which removes ~20% potential performance. It would still be fine for day to day tasks and media consumption, but more intense gaming will notice the older CPU.

So really it depends what you wanna do with it. If you want a long term gaming build you'll want to just look at the 6600k or 6700k. But if you just need a basic platform the 2600k is still viable.

I don't know why it says 1067 MHz, my RAM is 2666 MHz

Is this just a speccy bug?
>>
>>54805303
You're not running at 2666mhz you're rubbing at 2133mhz. You need to enable the XMP profile in the BIOS or set the speed, timings, and voltages manually.
>>
>>54805321
Thank you.
>>
>>54803964
667 MHz is pretty slow I think

But if you're going to upgrade I would upgrade to a motherboard that supports DDR4 and upgrade both at the same time

Also why no SSD?
>>
>>54805393
667mhz is 1333mhz

DDR means double data rate so speccy just shows the un-doubled frequency.

>>
>>54805415
Yeah but everyone else's speccy shows 1000 MHz+, so there is at least a 30% difference
>>
>>54805444
Anyone with 1000mhz+ is likely using DDR4 which starts at 2133mhz (1067 in speccy) some could be using very fast DDR3, but most probably are DDR4.
>>
>>54805483
Is the jump from DDR3 to DDR4 a significant performance increase? I know the clock speed is higher but is it actually noticeable?
>>
>>54805524
Depends what you're doing. Certain games are showing decently significant performance gains by using 3000mhz DDR4, but negligible against DDR3 at 2133Mhz DDR4.

Since RAM is as cheap as it is however I personally have 32GB (4x8GB) 3200mhz DDR4
>>
>>54805393
Not really looking to upgrade my motherboard at this time. I have an SSD but I haven't gotten around to installing it yet.

I feel like I should be getting better performance with my 980ti (60fps on Witcher 3 at ultra, drops to 40-50 at times but bounces back after a couple of minutes).and I think it might the ram that's causing it.
>>
>>54805698
The thing is I'm pretty sure DDR3 is now more expensive than DDR4

Obviously not enough to make up for having to buy a new motherboard but still

The SSD may help with your performance too, having the OS and the game on an SSD helps massively with game performance
>>
>>54805748
Witcher is actually one of the few games that sees nice performance gains using fast DDR4 (2666mhz+)
