I am still working on porting as much of an operating system (GNU/Linux - LFS) as possible to Node JS.

This is the current "shell". What do we name it?
>>
>>54777455
NoShell
what
>>
>>54777508

Well 1/1 - You are winning ATM
>>
>>54777455
MemeShell desu senpai

how deep are you going with this - going to replace low-level stuff or only the graphical desktop environment?
>>
>>54777455
VLS
Video Lan Shell
>>
>>54777455
This looks amazing. Much better than GNOME's default currently. And certainly better looking than KDE. You should upload this to GitHub or some other site, preferably under the GPL.
>>
>>54777832
As I am the only one working on it, it can be quite messy - it will be cleaned up eventually.

I suffer sever anxiety and when it comes to "releasing" anything it drives it through the roof. Only for the fact that I don't like to be told if I did something wrong etc.
>>
OP how far are you going with this? Like, are you actually rewriting everything?
>>
>>54778090
how does this affect battery? heard node can be shit for battery life

especially at higher resolutions
>>
>>54778421

I want to be able to rewrite as much as possible.

At the moment, that is a long way away. I am currently building on top of a custom LFS distro I built for this project (on my system it boots in ~7 secs).

ONE STEP AT A TIME
>>
>>54777508
>>
>>54777455
is this going to be a part of node os?

If yes, what do thing of the project?

I want to start helping it when the semester is over, npm is the best package manager.
>>
>>54778899
This is completely independent and has no connection to Node OS at all.

I think they are doing a marvellous job - but we can do better
>>
Holy shit, this looks amazing, BUT the icons look like fucking horseshit
>>
>>54779389

Thank you. Maybe you would like to provide the icons you would want (by default)?

Not Photoshop at all. This is actually LFS with NodeJS.

Oh Ye Of Little Faith

WHY

why must you torture us, op?
>>

Okay. I'm convinced now, sorry for doubting you.
Do you have a logo yet?

what is the benefit of porting gnu/linux to Node JS?
>>

..blood
>>
>>54777455
Why you chose Node.js over others? I cannot understand the good part of it compared with others.
>>
>>54780037
how about go lang.
>>
>>54778090
I know that feel.
>>
>>54780001

So, what exactly is written in JavaScript? Did you write the kernel in it? Which tools did you create from scratch?
>>
I would like to test it
>>
>>54780616
you get to leap on the bay area faggot flavour of the month meme train

>So does anyone think this is a good idea?

I don't but I'm curious about it anyway. Might as well see how far this goes
>>
>>54779823
Now it looks nice! The orange wallpaper was good too though
>>
>>54777455
You really want some nice sticky in the op. Because I have no idea what "porting linux to node.js" means. Doesn't node.js need an os to run on in the first place ? Do you mean you're porting the programs that run on linux themselves ? Wouldn't that be pointless since you can just call them directly from the os anyway ? Are you making some kind of virtual desktop and "bridging" it to the os underneath? Explain more.
>>
Call it OrangeOS :^)

And post the wallpaper please
>>
>>54778090
Wouldn't you rather be told you did something wrong as you do it and potentially offered a better alternative than have it only become clear that your code is shit after it's made?

I get it though. I had the same mindset up until recently. It's fuckin scary putting source code out there.
>>
>>54777455
>mfw this anon made the best looking Linux shell ever in fucking javascript

I would actually use that

I would say Vivacious Colors
>>
>>54778090
Release it. You know you want to. Imagine being in a world where everyone likes you because the shell you made isn't shit.

Wow. I really like that, anon.

so this is a DE written in aids. great.
>>
>>54787966
If it is trolling it seems to have backfired. It's kinda stupid to troll like this anyway though
>>
>>54777455
Fuck the haters. I really dislike node.js, but most of these retards couldn't LFS if their life depended on it.
This is a cool project.
