Price drops won't come until Christmas. 760's and 770s were still gong for 200 and 300 dollars well into the 970's life cycle.
they were almost full price until they seemingly evaporated over night in feburary/march of 2015.
970's and 980s will keep selling at full price, with the 970 being around 300-350 and the 980 being around 450-550. And about 7 months from now, they'll vanish.

If you want to play something like $100 for a card and play older games that you pick up for $5 apiece, then yeah, a 970 would be a great candidate.
I've had mine since the end of 2014 and it's been a very good card. I play at 2560x1440, generally at pretty high settings, and I've never run out of RAM.
It's significantly lower-powered and much quieter than the AMD 7870 card it replaced. So much so that I'll probably hold onto this 970 to use in an HTPC or similar application.
