What game is this, far cry primal? It looks like shit and if it needs 10+GB of vRAM to run them something is seriously wrong with it. Battlefield consumes about 3GB of vRAM at 4k with AA turned on and on the ultra graphics preset.

Unless this game is running at 8k resolution in which case the vRAM usage is reasonable and OP is a faggot.

Maybe for you right now. When I built my PC nearly 2yrs ago the cost of 16gb was £120 minimum.

Do you not understand value? $196 for 32GB is much better than $176 for 16GB. For someone building a new setup a few months ago it would have been unwise to max out the RAM immediately unless it was absolutely necessary considering DDR4 prices are half what they were then.
>>

I wouldn't say it's not a good idea, when the alternative is running out of memory completely and the OS killing processes to stay alive. Obviously it's not preferable.
>>
>>54751125
Yes, I agree. But it's not something you would set out to have happen on purpose. Ideally your RAM will match your use cases's workload.
>>
Lets say your computer has 2x2 GB ram on it. You're running out of ram during games/workload.

What would be more efficient? Buying 2x8GB 16GB ram for ~$55 to replace the 2x2 GB ram

or

Buying a 240 GB SSD for $55 and then partitioning 40 GB for pagefile and other 200GB?

Would the speed of pagefile noticibly affect your performance compared to 16GB of ram?

If he only had 8 GB of ram, it would be something like 4 GB of GPU + 6.5GB of RAM (1.5 being windows) and it wouldn't be able to run what he's running.

Problem OP is highlighting is the fact that, there are games that utilize more than 8GB. So the point of having only 8GB system ram limits some games.

Yes doom is running, to show the poster above that 8 GB isn't enough RAM. The poster above had made the claim that I was using under 8 GB RAM if I wasn't using a RAM disk. This was my response - if I launch any sort of demanding application at all I quickly go over 8. At the moment I don't have any VMs since I did a reinstall of Windows but whenever I need them and copy them back over from backup I easily top 20 GB usage.

It's so funny that you peons think 8 cuts it today unless you literally do nothing on your computer
>>
>using Shitdows 10 as some sort of an argument you need 16Gs of RAM or more

LMAO

Let me give you hint why you're retarded - Microsoft got "inspired" by Androids memory management around the time they were making this pile of puke you're using as an OS.

If you're too retarded to get the hint - of course it's filling up your RAM. IT'S FUCKING SUPPOSED TO DO THAT. IT'S ACTIVELY TRYING TO FILL ALL YOUR RAM.
>>
>>54752416
well, tbqh I run 16gb on my computer with a 4gb ramdisk and not only do I almost never top 8gb while gaming + ramdisk, I've literally never seen it get anywhere near 10gb usage, even with my windows XP VM running as well.

Why don't you show us what processes are using so much memory? Or, failing that, explain to me what else is using so much? My machine isn't laggy, and I didn't do anything special to my RAM usage settings in order to get much lower RAM usage, so I'm very, very confused about your deviant setup.

Basically, I think you're doing something horribly wrong with your machine.
>>
>>54752416
Both of those posts were me, but okay.
For gaming/general coding/above facebook stuff, 8gb can be more than enough, if you run ARK like OP at setting so high that it uses 10gb ram then buying more than 8gb is not breaking a sweat. Also if you are running vm(s) then 16gb kinda okay but 32gb is the way to go, we totally aggree there.

Why is your ramdisk so slow
>>
>>54752968
We're looking at 1TB NVMe drives at mainstream prices (sub $100) within those five years, especially if the Micron-Intel thing turns out to be a market disruptor in the SSD market
Since I'm one of the few who will actually make full use of these SSDs in a production environment, I can say that I'll probably wear out those drives as much as I can before upgrading
Also

Man, I feel like I've wasted my money on Samshits for the last time.

When you sub 100$ crash and burn I'll be here with my Samsung Pros laughing my ass off at your impotent rage on /g/.

Like pretty much every cheapass scheme you retards buy into really.

There is only one reason for something to get this cheap this fast, especially in the storage market which is going strong regardless of the PC going RIP and that's because the manufacturers don't want people to make a fuss when their shit fails.

>Oh well it only cost a 100$.

I don't think anyone godly has such a small dick as this faggot has.
>>
>>54750425
It is more than enough.

See: http://www.techspot.com/article/1043-8gb-vs-16gb-ram/page3.html

Notice how when games use over 8GB of RAM, the performance is still almost exactly the same?

That's because RAM is used for caching, so even if your RAM is filled up to the max, it doesn't even affect performance. Only when it gets really bad, with a ton of RAM in concurrent use, then you should upgrade.

At this point though, almost nothing uses enough to have more than 8GB.

But what about having multiple desktops and obviously just having a multitude of things needing to be kept open? I obviously think 8 gigs is fine for something like a laptop, but for a primary station, absolutely not.. Not if you need a a heavy-duty task machine
