In tech jobs, contractors pay at least twice the equivalent civil service rate, even with benefits and pension. No amount of job security is worth that. The general trajectory of government tech workers, military included, is to have the government pay for your education, get some experience in their systems, then apply for contract work with those same systems.
>>
>>54712875
Underrated post
>>
>>54714471
Actually the federal budget for most agencies is pretty stable. Different projects are budgeted depending on the circumstance but that rarely, if ever, leads to mass layoffs. And even then, the risks of working at a private corporation, especially a publicly traded one, are minimal

>>
>>54714574

Just my experience. I've got a dozen friends that get paid 70k a year to do CCENT-level shit at a military base in North Carolina, and at that pay they still have to beg people to apply. Same goes for military contract work. I've got a buddy working for Xe services in Kuwait making 140k + living expenses to monitor radars.

Civil service has decent benefits, my mom gets an hour of paid time every shift to work out, a ton of vacation and sick time, and impenetrable job security, but her pay is shit.
>>
>>54714647
Lower pay has traditionally been the hallmark of public sector work (less so today), no one is disputing that. But your claim that tech contractors make double the amount of their equivalent public sector position without losing benefits is outlandish. I'm sure there are some instances of this but that is too ridiculous of a discrepancy to be the norm

The girl with the rack would be pretty if she wasn't cross-eyed.
>>
>>54713889
some random chick who suckered a streamer into buying her a $30k car and paying for her college
>>
>>54714759

It's the norm for tech contractors and most government contractors. I don't have any stats to back it up, but I've lived next to a military base my entire life. I see this everyday.

If you want to test this out, go on Monster and compare the pay for military contract positions and a similar position near you.

100 years from now everyone will suddenly have the capacity to understand programming?

Look at the current state of society, people are not getting more intelligent
>>
>>54714808
people's brains were basically the same before the printing press as after. any notion that humans need to change is incredibly naive. we need to figure out how to teach this shit, and given that the field as we know it is barely 50 years old it's not that surprising that we suck at the pedagogy.

>>54714808
>people are not getting more intelligent
Just you, dipshit. IQ scores have been steadily rising for decades

sorry, and the connection here is that the printing press and the ubiquitousness of printed word made it possible for virtually everyone to learn to read. if you'd asked people 500 years ago how many people had the capacity to be literate, they'd have said *maybe* 50%, but more likely 10%.

>>54714759
you lose the bennies, but since you're making more than twice as much you don't need them. full benefits don't cost more than 20 grand a year. contracting also gives flexibility, you can get up and leave if you want, or you can look for 3 month contracts in places you wanted to visit

>muh job security
I'd rather make 150 grand this year and need to find another job next year than make 60 thousand over two years. At that rate I could skip working for the second year and still be ahead. Tax rates are also better if you earn money as a corporation instead of an employee.

>>
>>54714863
Learning to read is simple, but most people have trouble writing anything intelligible or useful. It's just too taxing on their brains and they don't see the point in getting things exactly right. As much as we pretend to be stupid, the average IQ on 4chan is quite high. If you watch how regular people communicate it puts /b/ to shame.

You can teach any young person the "words" of a programming language but only the minority of those people will have logic skills good enough to write programs that other people want to use.

>the average IQ on 4chan is quite high
has this been studied, or is it one of the findings from the Proceedings of Self-Congratulatory Horse Shit?

Every site's users all seem to think their community is so much smarter than the average. In 4chan's case in particular that's completely unwarranted. Maybe you're smart, but 99% of this site and /g/ consists of retarded faggots.

The distinction between being literate and writing quality prose and poetry is one that I simply don't care about. Making literacy universal means that you'll get lots of writing that some people don't value. And your perspective on what's worthwhile vs what's not isn't helpful either - if we were going to be judgmental of content that we didn't approve of, and if we allowed someone other than ourselves to be the judges of that merit, then 4chan would probably get axed. So would lots of other shitty sites you probably enjoy.

We put up with shitholes like 4chan and reddit because occasionally someone writes something worthwhile that's either informed or inspired or otherwise made possible by the existence of the shit. It may not be obvious, and certainly not *a priori*, but you need the junk to iterate on before you can get quality.

>Where is her github
i don't know. i wasn't claiming to have seen her github or anything impressive on it. not that i would use that as a criterion - i commit code every day but my github profile doesn't reflect private repo activity to others.

github activity is a great way to determine how active an active open source programmer on github is. when you constrain to that limitation, it becomes superficially obvious why people don't use it as a negative filter the way you seem to be trying to do.

A link to a website she made? Or something built using JS? Is that too much to ask from someone hired by NASA?

>A link to a website she made? Or something built using JS?
are you not understanding what "private repo" means? "repo" is short for "repository", which is the term we tend to use to refer to the codebase being tracked in version control software. "private" means that it's not publicly available. Organizations might require this for any number of reasons. In fact, your teacher might have a rule for class asking you not to post the solutions to problem sets online in public code repositories.

maybe i should back up. do you need me to explain what a codebase is? version control software?
>>
>>54716026
Why would she never post any of her works publicly? Those she made before joining NASA. What's so much secrecy around just a bunch of webdev stuff.

There are plenty of public repos, stop justifying this cunts' sheer luck.

fuck off. not every programmer is sucked into the github meme.

Losers always try to bring others down to their level.

You are just a very low tier loser, who is trying to bring others down, you're very low in the social hierarchy so that's why you feel that way.

Coincidence?
>>
>>54716052
Lots of sites - and I mean the vast majority - don't allow their website's source code to be made public. What you see in github is most analogous to seeing stars in the sky - yes, you might think it unfathomable that someone can exist in the universe that's not at one of those stars, but we also know that like 95+% of the universe is just fucking unknown at this point.

you seem absolutely dead-set on using any absence of evidence to conclude that she didn't deserve the job she got. what's the conspiracy you think you're unveiling here? that she sucked dicks all the way into NASA? do you have any idea how big a cover-up that would take? just to get a bunch of lousy blowjobs?

and compare that to the alternative, that her work isn't available on github because she's only worked at companies, which largely don't have thriving public-facing github orgs and repositories.

you people are so desperate to justify your beliefs post facto that you end up coming up with these absolutely insane, pathetic delusions. get a fucking grip.
>>
>>54716220

If she had better head game she could have gotten a decent job at Goldman Sacs.

Accomplish? I'm not trying to accomplish anything. Just pointing out that people high on the social hierarchy don't give a shit whether she gets a job or not, while you're here being all pissed off because she's doing better in life than you.

More like NASA wants to hire cool young kids who stream on Twitch to improve their public image and make the government give them more money. Remember the guy with the mohawk who was supposedly helping NASA launch some shit, a few years ago?
Same shit. It's all PR. She's part of the same PR program whose purpose is to make NASA look like a vibrant, young and diverse community of people trying to make their dreams come true, yadda yadda. NASA is basically the Apple of public institutions now.
>>
I don't know why you people consider being the equivalent of a janitor at NASA as being on the same level of an astronaut or some shit. You could bag groceries for NASA and technically "work at NASA"
>>
>>54712344
She have become an government agent. Sold sold to devil. Joined satanit illuninati cult. To promote pseudo-siences and 'fake space' ball earth agenda.
>>
>>54716255
multiple interviews, multiple blowjobs, everyone would have to get their stories straight about her qualifications (which is hard to do given that they'd all be fictitious).

it's really hard to accept that some woman who jokes about sucking dick on twitter is more employable than people on /g/, but /g/ is full of people who are literally too stupid to program AND too socially awkward to pass a culture fit interview.
>>
Obviously Russian, so she can hitch all those lifts.
>>
>>54716258
aha, so you're trying to convince yourself that you're "high" on the 'social hierarchy" then
>>
>>54716267
This is probably closer to the truth that I care to admit.
On-top of that, she is probably a okay programmer to. Her twitch profile says her favourite language is Javascript. She does a CompSci course, its not going to be her only language.
>>
Well then everyone get to work, start streaming on Twitch and sucking dicks and you might one day work at NASA.

Glhf.
>>
>>54712594
You're just sad.

I'm high enough to not care that some random whore sucked enough dicks to get a job at NASA. In fact if I was friends with her, I would like her tweet.

I've done actual contract work through Boeing at NASA many times in the past. I've never met a CS major as a programmer. They're almost always either a Mechanical Engineer or more commonly an Industrial Engineer. The only C's majors working at NASA have been doing bullshit IT work.
>>
>>54716426
Amazing JS programmers are definitely the future. But these products of CA and bootcamps are not.

Don't you idiots have a "poo in the loo" thread to shitpost in? Or one of those threads where you discuss how "Engineering and Computer Science are meme majors". It is pathetic how easily your little bitch-asses are triggered.

Posts like the OP should be motivation for you, not a call for self-loathing.

You want to work for NASA/Euro-NASA?

Git gud bitches.

Start learning something new, right now!

Or don't.

Additionally professional fields like engineering/doctors are very diverse both racially and in terms of sex. At that level where you are able to get a job at a place like NASA; the hyper competitive nature of the field levels out the playing field and is very inclusive. I'm a Hispanic industrial engineer with Boeing myself and I do high level statistical materials structure analysis. I have 2 women colleagues and 2 male colleagues. Only one of them is white.

"Java is the glue that ties our legacy software capabilities together, and provides a cross-platform modular framework for a collection of unrelated tools and capabilities via the NetBeans platform . . At the FDF we’ve been using Java for all of our new application development, and intend to continue doing so unless a particular project requires otherwise."

she's a webdev. nasa needs a couple webdevs too, but you can't write the code for their space computers in node.sjw when it needs to run on the equivalent of a watch battery for 50 years
>>
>>54716581
That's why they keep a few old farts for that kind of job. The new jobs are probably just young ppl using node.

To go further in:

" Java's journey from mundane to extraterrestrial began nearly a decade ago when JPL scientists began noodling with the programming language to create a command and control system for the 1995 Mars Sojourner, said James Gosling, known as "the father of Java."

The JPL team showed Sun what they had done, and Gosling, a vice president and fellow at the Santa Clara, California-based software and systems developer, was hooked. "

Every US government agency like NASA has dev teams mostly comprised of middle aged dudes with severely outdated skills and tools, and they ride the positions out till retirement.

The few that leave are basically unhirable in the private sector.

Source: I live near Cape Canaveral and have interviewed several people like this for dev positions
