I need to get a new WiFi home router. I am leaning towards a linksys one but I am not really familiar with other home routing options.

What are some alternatives?

Probably because they didn't throw DD-WRT onto it

We're gonna need more info on what you plan to use it for. Is wifi gonna be your primary connection? Is your main computer gonna be hardwired? Do you need 5Ghz?

My main computer will use ethernet. Our phones and laptops will use WiFi. Not sure what 5Ghz is useful for

Find a cheap E2000 or E3200 on eBay and throw DD-WRT or Tomato onto it, it sounds like you don't need anything fancy

wrt1900ac werks fine running openwrt
>>
>>54705417
dont buy one of the new linksys wrt series routers unless you are planning on using open wrt or dd-wrt. the stock firmware is broken and will never be fixed.
>>
>>54708123
Why would anyone buy a wrt without plannning to run openwrt on it?

witi router is the only real answer.

How much would it cost to build something comparable to an archer c7
>>
>>54705417
Literally just bought an archer c5 for my parents. Cant go wrong with the tp link stuff.
>>
>>54708396
I take this back. Fuck tp link.

Adapter is bulky, not polarized or earthed
No mounting screws included
Any normal screws i have around cant fucking slide in the receptacle.

They turned shitty.
>>
>>54708918
The hardware in TP Link stuff is good, but you almost always have to fuck with them to a degree

The Archer's tend to be space heaters that'll drop connections at some point before hardlocking, so find a giant P4 era heatsink, cut it up, and glue it onto the CPU/RAM/radio(s). Mine has months of uptime now

>adapter is not polarized/earthed
you think a plastic router needs to be earthed? where you live do they earth all plugs? even phone chargers?
>>
>>54709677
>earthed
Lol Brits

5ghz is only useful if the router and device are in the same room.
