I believe in you.

It'd be a lot easier if your shitty country allowed people to send you electronics because I could literally build a better computer with the scraps in my room.

x44 @ 1.350v
>with turboboost on
When running Prime95 torture tests (all 3 presets), multiplier usually stays at 35 and sometimes bumps above it.
When running Prime95 benchmark, it actually reaches 44.
>with turboboost off
If not running Prime95 tests, multiplier stays at 44, but when running Prime95 torture tests, it goes down to 35.
Now I'm just playing vidya and it actually utilizes my overclock. Someone explain this sorcery to me please.

Heat is an issue with higher clocks and vcore even with a Noctua NH-D14

Thermal throttling?

P95 really does 100% all 4 cores, gaming very rarely does, and it loads it in such a way that you CPU is consuming more power then any real-world application would push it too.

It sits at 50c while on vidya, and can reach upto 70c when I had it at x41, even at x44 it still sits at 70c so I'm not sure if that is the issue.

Anything I should change? It's old but works.
>>
>>54696331

Try running linpack burntest and see if the same thing happens.
>>
>>54696379

Move to a 256GB SSD? Maybe?

But in reality, you should probably just keep it as it is. Its old enough to the point where putting money into it isn't worth it, but its not shitty enough to be trashed yet.
>>
>>54696265
You might want to delid and replace the TIM with liquid metal on the 6770k for better temps, Intel is using bad TIM and on many chips they are failing to apply it to the entire chip. What cooler are you using?

>>54696294
Did you delid the 3770k?
>>
>>54696437
No. Wanted to do it but not necessary. H100i v2.
>>
>>54696449
I have the same CPU, I will end up deliding it when I need a massive overclock to keep up with the times, also by then a replacement 3770k will be cheap enough on ebay to justify the risk.
>>
>>54696494
For what? It won't bottleneck anything, if you need more FPS or conversion speeds you should go for some 2011 platform.

I'll keep the 3770K at least until 2018, it will run even two 1080Tis well.
>>
>>54696437
>deliding for a couple extra degrees

Its a Noctua D15. At p95 load, it sits at 60c.

Just web-browsing at the moment.
>>
>>54696388
I guess that explains it
>running at x44, temp reaches 78c and drops down to x33
>while at x33, temps drop down to 50c multiplier goes up to x44 again
So it is thermal throttling, but why would it throttle if those temps are pretty safe? I've seen people all around with higher temps than mine and even lower clocks but still doesn't throttle?
>>
>>54696611
>22nm chip @ 53c pretty much idle

Are you purposely inhibiting airflow or something?
>>
>>54696635

>>
>>54696625

Although this is pure speculation, I have a feeling the thermal throttling is a symptom of another problem: shitty voltage regulation. When your system is under full load, a transient over/undershoot was serious enough that a hardware safegaurd from intel kicked in and throttled your system.

That shit mobo you bought probably has the absolute cheapest VRMs, and overvolting on it will likely cause damage to its lifespan.
>>
>>54696850
I wanted to gimp on the mobo because I still need to buy a 1440p monitor +1070/amd equivalent.
This is what I get I guess.
>>
>>54696942

Have you checked for firmware updates? Probably won't help, but it probably won't brick your mobo. probably.

Well you should go backwards and trace the issue. Go back to stock speeds, turn off turbo, and write down what the stock intel spec voltage is.

Start stepping down the voltage by 0.005v until you find the lowest stable voltage at stock, the lower the stock stable voltage, generally speaking, the higher the bin on your chip.

If you lose stability after less than ~0.010v, then yah, your lost the intel bin lottery on top of having a shit mobo. Nothing you can do, give up.

If you start reaching into the -0.030v category... you won the bin lottery, but you can't do anything with it because you have a shit mobo.

>>54697182
I was running stable at x41 with volts at auto for the past week, just now I thought maybe I could juice out more on this thing. Not much of an overclock in the end.
I'll wait until I get the 1070/polaris and see if this CPU becomes a bottleneck at this clock (I doubt, well I hope it isn't), then maybe I'll try to go through the hassle of flashing my bios and testing a bazillion times after adjusting volts by .005.
>tfw I didn't even consider overclocking and would have been just fine with an i5-6500 but none of the stores in my area had one in stock

>>
>>54696016
anything that stresses AVX instructions will bring any overclock throttling down

Just a question. Do you guys use legitimate Windows license keys or pirate them?

I'm still deciding on whether I should buy a sealed Windows 7 retail box on eBay or not. I've always used a pirated copy but coming July you can't upgrade to Windows 10 anymore for free legitimately.
>>
>>54699711
I would switch to Linux before buying Windows

My PC built back in 2011. Upgrading this year, served me well for a long 5 years. Still runs some new games, most new games are too much for the 1GB V-RAM. It's a 6950, my biggest mistake was listening to people tell me 1GB would be enough and 2GB was a meme.

Oh well life goes on.
