There is no device more disgusting than a mid-2000s silver plastic laptop where the paint is worn off around the edges and you can see the shitty white plastic, cracked where the hinges connect to the plastic panel and unevenly shiny from use. Eww.

after having a laptop from 2001 finally start to really fall apart in 2009, and then the laptop I bought to replace still working just fine other than it being slow as fuck (that's moreso because I bought a slow machine, having used a box from 2001 for nearly years), I then got two Acer laptops once I needed more power (one right after the other)
never fucking again
first one still works, but it's held together with ducttape and prayers
the other is deader than dead (real shame too, it was rather fast and cost fuck-all), although it's physically fine
it just doesn't come up at all

Elitebook 8440p reporting in. Nice laptop but 2 buttons for clitmouse make it useless pretty much. I had to get used to touchpad again, coming from thinkpads. I also have compaq nx7400, which is mid tier (neither consumerist, nor business) which is pretty ancient (2006/7). Still works but I don't have any use for it anymore.

Deters crimes of opportunity. The amount of time required to learn to pick that lock is less than it would take to find someone else's laptop to steal. It's like putting an alarm system on your house. If someone is desperate enough, they will find a way to get past it, but why do that when they can just rob your neighbors instead with 1/3 the effort.
