Most new workstations made by Dell, HP, et al. still feature an RS-232 port since a lot of equipment still uses it for control, they also have at least one PCI slot in case you have an old add-in card that you absolutely need for some reason. Expensive industrial gear is utilized for decades and interfaces with whatever computers had at the time.

There are undoubtedly connectors you can hook up a port to, though. I imagine these are there because it's 2 cents a piece to add because the chipset already has pins for them, so if it sells 0.1% more as a result it's worth it.

Their F1 cars used proprietary interface cards for the car's subsystem that only worked with a specific model of laptop, supposedly to prevent secrets from leaking out, even within the company. To this day they still need to procure these dinosaurs just to be able to access their own cars. They're actively trying to reverse-engineer the interface because they're running out of laptops.
