i just found out the reason my pc would not post was due to some bad gskill ddr4.
is there a /g/ recommended 16gb kit i should be looking at to replace it? or doesn't it matter too much?
(i am running a 5820k and do a bit of video editing if that really makes any difference)

Ram is ram faggot. Stop looking for approval.

i thought so! will do

Just get the densest size you can get, and since you have an unlocked CPU, ran frequency is also an important thing for you.

>yfw the CPU is unlocked but the mobo isn't

crucial and mushkin ram is pretty good
Reset the CMOS you retard
These days bad ram manufacturers are a thing of the past. If you have bad rams odds are you damaged it or the retailer did.

Pretty simple actually. Check the ram's timings and calculate the latency you'll get at a particular frequency of your choice.
For example; at a frequency of 2400mhz = 2.4x10^9hz so T= 0.416ns for cl=13 -> response time is 6.2ns. 2133 at cl13 is 6.1ns. If you have 1833mhz then latency for cl=10 will be 5.45ns. Latency (ns) = clock cycle time (ns) x CL
If you're going for high clock speeds you need something with low latency.

ram with heatsinks that sticks up above the PCB is not /g/ approved because they get in the way of cpu coolers and serve no purpose other than making little kids excited.

Heatsinks matter when you're doing video editing. OP probably has a liquid cooler. I hope he does anyway.
