Since it doesn't report upload i'm sure it'll make you poor cable fucks feel a bit better about how much you're getting cucked.

>>54658227
twitch and youtube streaming only uses not even 2mbps, and the partnered users who have transcoding still only send 4mbps cause anything over isnt accepted.
everything that streams online streams at the same bitrates, most are only 1-2 for their highest with no pixelation
and everything else on the internet needs nowhere near that much throughput
>>54658318
>streaming anything
anon, I have 17.75TB of hard drive space for a reason. Why bother streaming anything unless it's a live stream? If it's on bluray, i'll download that. A full bluray season of TV or anime takes me ~10-20 minutes to download.
Also, since I download so much I am part of many torrent private trackers, where seeding is a requirement, my 150mbps upload lets me seed like a demon, and my ISP has no data caps, I have had 6TB+ bandwidth a month before.
>>54658318

who do I trust?
>>54658358
is that a serious question?
>>54658358
speedofme has been shit for years, I dont know why anyone thinks they're more realistic, anyone with greater than 30-40Mbps will see speedofme give shit results 90% of the time because their servers can't handle the load.
>>54658358
The Jews; they never lie.
>>54658354
>what is buffering
go to twitch, open up blizzard or who ever the largest stream is, set it to the highest setting and look at your network monitor, open it in a seperate browser using nothign else and you'll see it maxing at around 4mb/s
when you set it to High its around 3000
>>54658358
can't trust anyone. Your ISP speeds up requests to those websites.
51
>>54658383
If your ISP speeds up requests to fast.com that means they speed up ALL requests to netflix servers. Which is good...
>>54658383
go to competitor ISP sites and use their results then
>>54658391
this
>>54658395
or just download a fucking file and check the download speed then. christ.
>>54658396
I love how people don't understand just because it's a different web address than netflix.com, somehow fast.com CAN'T possibly be using netflix servers.
So many people THINK they know how networking works and haven't a clue how it actually works.
>>54658408
Nah, obviously your ISP is specifically speeding up my torrents and my steam downloads.
>>54658408
i use firefox DTA because most file hosts are jews and breaking it into 10 threads makes it faster
and then some sites are so jewish even at that point it doesnt reach my max thruput
meanwhile others will download at max thru chrome's default handler
either way, fast.com is finally the fastest one without the bullshit
even the others that claim their fast, go thru their bullshit "packet loss" which wont work if your router is properly setup anyways cause it drops WAN pings so you're wasting a minute to have the test tell you it failed
How does the network control speed? I see no protocol that tells the bandwidth of the connection. All I see is that it just sends and awaits packets in 1500 byte frames. How does it know not to send more than the slowest point of the chain can take?
>>54658420
>I love how people don't understand just because it's a different web address than netflix.com, somehow fast.com CAN'T possibly be using netflix servers.
what? i never said that. you got my reversed
>Nah, obviously your ISP is specifically speeding up my torrents and my steam downloads.
what?
>>54658497
what? i never said that. you got my reversed
Anon, I'm agreeing with you, just because someone responds to you doesn't mean they're picking a fight
>what?
The dude earlier was saying the ISP just speeds up connections to speedtest sites, I was making fun of that saying obviously the ISP is just gonna speed up your torrents and your steam downloads to keep up the charade.
>>54658493
>I see no protocol that tells the bandwidth of the connection.
i dont really know a lot about networking but I just read a paper which states this:
>"One of the main goals of a congestion control algorithm is to protect the network against congestion collapse — an armageddonic scenario in which endpoints send packets at a high rate into the network, majority of which gets dropped never reaching the destination."
So there seem to be ways to control the bandwidth to handle it better, as it was said in that specific congestion example. or maybe i understood it incorreclty and im making myself look like a dumbass.
heres the paper btw https://koyaanis.com/i/Removing%20Exponential%20Backoff%20from%20TCP.pdf
>>54658521
oh alrighty then. yeah i was aiming to say something similar too at first.
>>54658354
nice fucking meme but that isn't a stream and you appear to have DASH turned off. Youtube will buffer 1080p no problem with 3mbps,
>>54658227

wat? since when is youtube not a stream? and whats DASH?
Help.
>>54658377
werks for me
>netfucks
wtf, I'm paying for 30 down
>>54658635
Then you have a fairly slow connection most likely.
speedofme on my universities gigabit connection is fucking laughable and since I can easily connect to other universities across the nation and hit 800-900mbps, it's speedofme, and not my university being assholes and throttling it or anything.
>>54658380
Are you confusing MB/s with Mb/s
shaw. advertised as 15.
>>54658619
you cant buffer a stream, every 2 seconds is sent at a time, which is the default keyframing that every streaming service suggests including Akamai
youtube uses progressive streaming, which is a single file, which is why you can download and save it, its sending you a MP4 file, not 2 frames at a time
Good luck cucks
>>54658699
but earlier you included youtube streaming
>>54658728
Not too bad huh?
>>54658669
no
ive used OBS and Xsplit enough times to know what time talking about
twitch basically uses the algorthym of 3500 for 60 FPS 720p streaming
if you stream at 30fps you only need about 1800 upload streaming, everything else is CPU encoding based to make it look better, which an haswell i3 can do fairly well, an i5 would be able to do it at the highest quality
anything higher than that is for having multiple simultaneous streams/devices at once and using a proper QoS and firmware like ddwrt or tomato
the only upload you need is sending the acknowledge packages for TCP communication and the upload most cable companies provide is more than enough, even the anon who posted 110/5 is double whats needed to stream the highest quality on twitch on par with the same fucking stream that the top League of Legends stream is at
>>54658746
oh shit senpaitachi
Germany master race
took me 46 minutes just to make this post
>>54658730
i was talking about their fucking live streaming you autistic faggot
not watching an archive
if you watch a twitch archive it will buffer the same cause its in 30 minute chunks
open what ever app you use to save that while looking at a real stream and you'll see a bunch of f4a files or whatever
same thing hulu does, it'll buffer up to a minute, but live streaming obviously cant, especially if the streamer doesnt enable it, which twitch has, its about 15 seconds less "delay" which is a buffer
going pretty fast here, amsterdam.
>>54658782
Shit, even German speed tests are feeding you propaganda. I hate to break it to you, but you're getting raped just like all your little girls.
>>54658802
>i was talking about their fucking live streaming you autistic faggot
lol raged. still get 20 Mbit/s on livestreams
>looking at a real stream and you'll see a bunch of f4a files or whatever
you have those single files on youtube videos too
Fuck you tmobile!
>>54658850
the fucking buffer was 15 seconds max at any point you fucking idiot
the same exact length twitch buffers if you tell it to, otherwise its closer to 30 seconds
>thinking the fucking download throughput reading that youtube shows is how much its buffering
if you manually fucking capped your mad address or dhcp ip in your router to 5000kbps you'll have the same fucking quality everythign else is useless overhead can i make it any clearer you dense wanker
>>54658658
I don't consider 120 Mbps slow but whatever floats your boat. speedtest, speedof.me, and fast all report the same speed.
>>54658928
Then you probably live near or in LA, NYC, or Chicago. Maybe Austin.
>>54658891
>the fucking buffer was 15 seconds max at any point you fucking idiot
maybe thats because a live video cant buffer indefinitely into the future because it didnt happen yet?
>thinking the fucking download throughput reading that youtube shows is how much its buffering
i pointed with my mouse on the buffer time
>>54658946
yes 15 seconds
your 20 fucking mbps means nothign, change your device's max in your router to 5000kbps or 5 mbps and see the same exact quality without buffering
>>54658853
I'm crying...my top results were the same as yours. My ISP is Comcast.
>>54658974
>your 20 fucking mbps means nothign, change your device's max in your router to 5000kbps or 5 mbps and see the same exact quality without buffering
? of course i will see the same quality. why would it go down ? If you want different qualities you need to use the small settings button at the bottom right.
>tfw shitposting from company server
>>54658994
i just opened the young turks live stream bro, fucking 1080p only required 2000kbps thats 2Mb/s
they have a 9 second delay enacted for low latency (so chat users can be read on screen without a large delay of waiting)
and a 5 second buffer
my ISP connection is 60mbps
that overhead is useless for any single streaming service known to man online
for archived streaming, anything buffering more than the speed at which the player DVR bar is moving is also pointless
a progressive stream is literally just a cuck version of downloading the file yourself, opening in VLC and watching it as it continues to download in the background
its the same shit

shall we go to any forum with google fiber users, or how bout the verizon fios / frontier fios entire month of april shit storm and still going on now for the major cities of LA, Dallas and Tampa along with various other parts of the country without stable service
i'm paying for 150, so not bad i guess
>>54659290
To be fair the Verizon/Frontier thing is all on Frontiers end, shit was fine when it was Verizon overseeing things.
>>54659290
>fiber is error free :3
error? what kind of errors does fiber have? lol it just does what its supposed to do
>>54659330
it really depends on how much "paying for 150" means. i get gigabit as part of my apartment setup (grad student on campus = apartment is deducted from my stipend automatically and utilities and everything else are just not itemized). if i was paying for gigabit, every extra baud would be a triumph of some sort. getting it for free makes it meh
>>54659351
150/150 for $65/month. I usually get anywhere from 5-10mbps more.
>>54659374
yeah, i bet at $65/month i'd appreciate the differences a bit (especially at 5-10mbps)
Not bad considering plan is 100/2.5 (australian cable - hfc)
>>54659341
verizon fios wasnt without issue either, sure their service never went "down" like charter or comcast just last week had a huge outtage (which was really just an issue if you had their DNS servers from what i heard)
but they also werent exactly 100% upload throughput all the time either, same with download
there would be issues usually at their higher tier routing which tracerts would show
and that doesnt discount the fact they require a UPS battery and only replace it once during the life of your contract
also the fact that if you forget to release your DHCP lease in your router before unplugging it, 99% of the time their servers wouldnt even re-sync and yo'd have to wait on fucking hold and get the generic troubleshooting runaround before the phone rep would finally "run his tests" which is code for fucking reset the lease even if you told them that from the start.
meanwhile a fucking cable modem has zero issues
get a proper 3rd party router with a good firmware with QoS and a modem if the one supplied has less than the current supported amount of download channels your ISP supports and you're set
i had 75/75 fios for the last 5 years, now im on charter with 60/5
one was 104 a month, the other is 39 dollars
zero noticeable difference in either and i could upgrade to the 100/5 down if i needed but its its overkill
all of this i learned while dabbling in live streaming over the last year.
>>54659564
150/150 fios here for $65/month, only other option is Comcast for 150/20 $75/month.
I'm not giving up my upload speed for comcrap and $10 more a month.
>>54658131
I probably will but I don't know about /g/. Can an imageboard buy something?
>>54659594
thats why i went with charter cause of no/caps
and unless you're in NY i wouldnt hold much faith on frontier keeping up, there was areas of the nation that were sold off, after convered to Verizon Fios like 6 years ago and never got expanded and had the same shitty drop in service quality just like now the rest of the nation who got transfered in april are noticing
>>54659631
I'm in Washington DC which is still purely Verizon.
But i've got a friend in Florida getting dicked over by frontier now.
