twitch and youtube streaming only uses not even 2mbps, and the partnered users who have transcoding still only send 4mbps cause anything over isnt accepted.

everything that streams online streams at the same bitrates, most are only 1-2 for their highest with no pixelation

and everything else on the internet needs nowhere near that much throughput
>>
>>54658318
>streaming anything

anon, I have 17.75TB of hard drive space for a reason. Why bother streaming anything unless it's a live stream? If it's on bluray, i'll download that. A full bluray season of TV or anime takes me ~10-20 minutes to download.

Also, since I download so much I am part of many torrent private trackers, where seeding is a requirement, my 150mbps upload lets me seed like a demon, and my ISP has no data caps, I have had 6TB+ bandwidth a month before.

go to twitch, open up blizzard or who ever the largest stream is, set it to the highest setting and look at your network monitor, open it in a seperate browser using nothign else and you'll see it maxing at around 4mb/s

when you set it to High its around 3000

I love how people don't understand just because it's a different web address than netflix.com, somehow fast.com CAN'T possibly be using netflix servers.

So many people THINK they know how networking works and haven't a clue how it actually works.

>>54658408
Nah, obviously your ISP is specifically speeding up my torrents and my steam downloads.
>>
>>54658408

i use firefox DTA because most file hosts are jews and breaking it into 10 threads makes it faster

and then some sites are so jewish even at that point it doesnt reach my max thruput

meanwhile others will download at max thru chrome's default handler

either way, fast.com is finally the fastest one without the bullshit

even the others that claim their fast, go thru their bullshit "packet loss" which wont work if your router is properly setup anyways cause it drops WAN pings so you're wasting a minute to have the test tell you it failed
>>
How does the network control speed? I see no protocol that tells the bandwidth of the connection. All I see is that it just sends and awaits packets in 1500 byte frames. How does it know not to send more than the slowest point of the chain can take?

>>
>>54658493
>I see no protocol that tells the bandwidth of the connection.
i dont really know a lot about networking but I just read a paper which states this:
>"One of the main goals of a congestion control algorithm is to protect the network against congestion collapse — an armageddonic scenario in which endpoints send packets at a high rate into the network, majority of which gets dropped never reaching the destination."

So there seem to be ways to control the bandwidth to handle it better, as it was said in that specific congestion example. or maybe i understood it incorreclty and im making myself look like a dumbass.

heres the paper btw https://koyaanis.com/i/Removing%20Exponential%20Backoff%20from%20TCP.pdf

you cant buffer a stream, every 2 seconds is sent at a time, which is the default keyframing that every streaming service suggests including Akamai

youtube uses progressive streaming, which is a single file, which is why you can download and save it, its sending you a MP4 file, not 2 frames at a time

Not too bad huh?
>>
>>54658669

no

ive used OBS and Xsplit enough times to know what time talking about

twitch basically uses the algorthym of 3500 for 60 FPS 720p streaming

if you stream at 30fps you only need about 1800 upload streaming, everything else is CPU encoding based to make it look better, which an haswell i3 can do fairly well, an i5 would be able to do it at the highest quality

anything higher than that is for having multiple simultaneous streams/devices at once and using a proper QoS and firmware like ddwrt or tomato

the only upload you need is sending the acknowledge packages for TCP communication and the upload most cable companies provide is more than enough, even the anon who posted 110/5 is double whats needed to stream the highest quality on twitch on par with the same fucking stream that the top League of Legends stream is at

not watching an archive

if you watch a twitch archive it will buffer the same cause its in 30 minute chunks

open what ever app you use to save that while looking at a real stream and you'll see a bunch of f4a files or whatever

same thing hulu does, it'll buffer up to a minute, but live streaming obviously cant, especially if the streamer doesnt enable it, which twitch has, its about 15 seconds less "delay" which is a buffer

i just opened the young turks live stream bro, fucking 1080p only required 2000kbps thats 2Mb/s

they have a 9 second delay enacted for low latency (so chat users can be read on screen without a large delay of waiting)

and a 5 second buffer

my ISP connection is 60mbps

that overhead is useless for any single streaming service known to man online

for archived streaming, anything buffering more than the speed at which the player DVR bar is moving is also pointless

a progressive stream is literally just a cuck version of downloading the file yourself, opening in VLC and watching it as it continues to download in the background

its the same shit

>>
>>54659341

verizon fios wasnt without issue either, sure their service never went "down" like charter or comcast just last week had a huge outtage (which was really just an issue if you had their DNS servers from what i heard)

but they also werent exactly 100% upload throughput all the time either, same with download

there would be issues usually at their higher tier routing which tracerts would show

and that doesnt discount the fact they require a UPS battery and only replace it once during the life of your contract

also the fact that if you forget to release your DHCP lease in your router before unplugging it, 99% of the time their servers wouldnt even re-sync and yo'd have to wait on fucking hold and get the generic troubleshooting runaround before the phone rep would finally "run his tests" which is code for fucking reset the lease even if you told them that from the start.

meanwhile a fucking cable modem has zero issues

get a proper 3rd party router with a good firmware with QoS and a modem if the one supplied has less than the current supported amount of download channels your ISP supports and you're set

i had 75/75 fios for the last 5 years, now im on charter with 60/5

one was 104 a month, the other is 39 dollars

zero noticeable difference in either and i could upgrade to the 100/5 down if i needed but its its overkill

all of this i learned while dabbling in live streaming over the last year.
>>
>>54659564
