Your experience can vary greatly depending on the phone, I personally only buy Nexus phones.
I love the freedom and pure Android offered on Nexus.

Yeah I'm currently on a Nexus 6, it's a very nice phone. I'm glad you got a Nexus, I see so many people with a horrible opinion of Android due to bad experiences with Samsung.
Yeah the 810 can heat up, have you considered getting a custom back, aka skin?
There are places like dbrand where you can get a back custom made for your phone, just pick a material that wouldn't heat up as much.
