The important thing here is that they are now locking Oculus software from the Oculus store to their hardware. Software that previously allowed Oculus software to run on other headsets like the vive (ReVive) no longer works. They previously said that they would never do this. Wonder what changed.

I'm not surprised, most of the developers that have their stuff on the Oculus Store accepted financial and technical assistance from Facebook in exchange for keeping their stuff Oclulus exclusive, so I can't really blame them for wanting to keep that exclusivity.

It's the Oculus Home software that now detects if a Oculus headset is connected to it and through some form of protection. This wasn't the case before.
Also the ReVive dev doesn't want to circumvent any game DRM that could lead to piracy. Otherwise you legitimize Oculus' attempts to block it.

They're going for a walled garden approach because they think this headset will appeal to normies, why they included a worthless remote and xbox controller, when it's a niche product. Daydream will kill Oculus Home before they can figure out that mobile is the only place this will work and SteamVR will live on as the monopoly on PC.
