Should i spend money on this or another SoC? what can it do that a modern smartphone cant (note4 atm)?

I just got one yesterday. Will be perfect for my project, because of built-in wireless network module.

Yes, but Rbpi has the most support.
You could also pay some more for a more powerful SBC.
You could also build a mini-itx PC, but it will be a little bigger.
And a bit pricier but much more performance.
