Are there any groups out there that practice hacking into different types of topology or infrastructures? like ethically or with permission. I have a strong knowledge base of linux and pen testing that has been self learned but have been wanting to put my knowledge to practice. I live in the bay area witch is a tech haven so I was hoping someone knew of maybe an academic group or organization that gets together to do this kind of thing.

I've been to one in Vancouver. However they deal mostly with hardware modding.
