Memes aside, is being software developer a decent career choice?

Is it worth doing a computing degree just to become a software developer?

UK btw. It seems like they're more geared towards R&D.

6 months, was a libshit studen b4, started with C#, Java, javascript (and all the mean stack), got into python and OpenCV, coz of it got into C++ and C, now learning PHP just coz, but thinking of soon to learn functional programmning again, just coz, maybe after year or so I'll move to something I really like, I dont want to fall for memes that I dont know if some language is good or not etc...
