I picked up a WD 2TB My Passport for $80.

I have a WD 1TB Black in a third party eSATA enclosure that runs 24/7 along with my computer. It has a fan on it, but the retarded factory workers put the fucking fan backwards so that it's sucking air from inside the case, not blowing air into it.
Temperatures never exceeds 50 degrees, so it's bretty good.

One Western Digtal, two Toshiba. I use them for backups. They work reliably for me so far. NSA backdoor could be in anything unless you walk into a store in China and physically buy it there, lol. Toshiba seems a good brand to me. Avoid Seagate like the plague.
