For some reason I prefer slim laptop-style keyboards over mechanical ones. Why are mechanical keyboards better in your opinion?

I like mine. It just feels better, there no resistance when I press the keys and they're much more sensitive.

They feel sluggish to me. Slim keyboards do require force but it feels snappy for me. I also don't like pressing down deep.
