lubuntu unless you have to have windows for program support, which i dont think you need
lubuntu is actually pretty comfy though

i think im retarded but i have no idea how this works
im on windows, downloaded the exe, when i open it a black window runs for a second then closes immediately
>>
>>54573873
I had this same problem. Create a directory on your C:/ drive called ytdl or whatever and then add that directory to your path. To add to your path right click control panel and select "Advanced system settings", then select "Environment variables..." and scroll down and edit PATH with the new directory.
>>
>>54573891
i thought it was because i didnt have python so im in the middle of installing that now
>>
>>54573928
You don't have to have python do run the youtube-dl.exe file, you just have to edit your PATH, and then just open up CMD, cd to the directory and run "youtube-dl URL"
>>
>>54573891
>>54573943
doesn't have to be in root right, just the drive

When do I charge my laptop? Do I keep it plugged-in even after it's fully charged? Or do I only charge it when it gets really low, like <20%, just so to preserve the battery cycle?
>>
>>54573962
Just put it in C:/ytdl

My laptop randomly starts to read inputs from the S key, and continuously reads that input. Any idea on how to stop and prevent this?

Also, on a related note, when I close my laptop and it goes into sleep mode, it will randomly remove itself from sleep mode due to the above happening. I went into the control panel and delected "allow this device to wake the compute" from the properties menu for the keyboard, but it's still causing it to leave sleep mode.

What gives?

Why is sipping wine alone while listening to some good ol' italian disco(me) considered alcoholism but being around others taking shots til piss drunk acceptable behavior?
>>
>>54573962
you can put it anywhere

when editing PATH, pay attention to the seperator (iirc it's ";"), and also to only put the folder path in there (like "c:\ytdl", not "c:\ytdl\youtube-dl.exe")
any executables in that (immediate) folder will become available from anywhere in cmd, without the need to switch to that folder
>>
>>54574032
-- oh, and don't remove existing PATH entries, add yours to the end of the line

thats interesting, i also have an issue with my s key although a bit different
i found out that my laptop makes a slight humming/whirring noise when i push the s key
i can even hear it if i just touch the s key, barely putting pressure at all although the noise is fainter that way, and even if i press it fully the noise is faint enough that i cant make it out unless my ear is close to the keyboard
what is it with the s key

whats the easiest way to reinstall windows?
I dont want to lose my key, and I need a clean install

I have recently unknowingly downloaded some malware and while I have removed some of it (a coin miner), I will obviously never really know if it's all gone. So obviously the best option is to format and re install windows however I have about 3.5TB of shit on HDDs connected to this computer and many collections from music to anime to porn that I have built up over the past 5-6 years and would be a major loss. I've been running a number of malware removal tools but I still feel dirty. Is there any decent way to scan all of my media from a non infected computer and then move it over to a clean install of windows? Or would that still just defeat the purpose of doing a clean install to begin with?

Also I received this email from the guy who distributed this malware (I'm pretty sure that's what it's about because my friend who downloaded the same game also received this email). I thought it would be best to just not reply because he is probably just fishing for replies to target more. That said talking to him would also probably be the only way to actually remove everything but that would obviously just depend on whether he felt like telling me the truth. Ideas?

I recently broke my phone and bought a cheap no name dumb phone as a temporary replacement and to my surprise am actually loving it.

There are two features which I am missing though. I mainly use SMS and the phone has a storage of only a few hundred messages so have to delete them frequently.

The other feature I am missing is that messages are not grouped into conversations.

Does anyone know a decent dumb phone that has these features? It is pretty much everything that I am looking for in a phone.

for aftermarket you have a choice of a fuckhuge air cooler or the nzxt/corsair aio kits. I would go with that, its simple enough and just as maintenance free, just be sure to get little heatsinks for the vrms and you're golden

Sometimes I see mods distributed for games that are a .dll file that is supposed to be placed in the game directory and gets loaded by the game executable, but oftentimes these .dll files don't actually replace anything in said install directory. So in these cases, how does the game know to load the .dll from the mod I installed?

I was under the impression that unless the .exe actually contained a reference to the library then it wouldn't do anything... Are these files overriding default OS libraries that are called by the .exe or something?

The binary diff algorithm used in deltarpm is a version of bsdiff modified for speed.

It seems obvious, but I will ask just in case: I'm building a completely new PC, but keeping the hard drive. Will this cause any problems with windows (that is already installed)? I want a lite, stylish and ultraportable laptop. I use a few (not demanding) programs on Windows but I've read that the new Retina Macbook runs Windows 10 like a dream. I dabble in PC gaming but I mostly play ancient MMORPGs (SWG EMU, Anarchy Online). I hide any power level that I might have in public and would probably be considered a normie and I've been using Macbooks for the last 10 years but I've been so impressed with the Stealth and it's potential when the Core is released that I'm hung up on picking.
>>

it's not hard but it's can be a timesink. I've used it for a while.

>>54577449
IMO, stick with Java if you're trying to be easily employable.

C++ is also fine, but your should really make your next project a simple Java application that does something with an API.

Hell, use 4chan's API's, it'll be good practice in dealing with JSON and creating objects from them:
https://github.com/4chan/4chan-API

I wasn't too happy about that but knowing me and my interest in new(ish) tech I'll likely pick up the Core when it finally comes out and throw a GTX 1070 or something in it. Ok /g/, two questions

1070 will be cheaper than the 980ti is today but not sure about how long for in the future, will deffo have a better price to performance ratio so would advice for the 1070 at this moment
>>
>>54577724
980ti prices probably won't drop until enough 1070s hit the market for them to supplant the previous generation, so I'd guess prices won't adjust for a couple weeks.

This is assuming the 1070 outperforms the 980ti - if it turns out to be 3.5gate round 2 or some shit then the prices might not drop.

Is it at all possible for software to make WiFi connection weak?

I got a new phone the other day, WiFi worked fine and I was without issues. I went to root it and flashed some stock, rooted files with no other changes and for some reason, ever since, my WiFi signal on my phone is really poor. Most of the time it shows zero bars and sometimes I pick it up and it's just not connected at all and takes a while to connect again.

I'm not sure if it's my WiFi or the phone itself. Any ideas? One thing to note is that I'm in the UK and the stock image I flashed was more of a generic one as opposed to a UK one, but that supposedly shouldn't matter

What's the problem here?

If you're going for a nas drive be sure that the case you're putting it in has as little vibration as possible and isn't subjected to any vibration often. They can easily corrupt data compared to something specifically made to withstand vibration (i.e. WD Black). The WD Black is louder and more expensive per TB (iirc) but it's more resilient than the others especially if you don't have a proper enclosure.

Getting a 120mm radiator makes that entirely pointless

I hope you're doing all of this in safe mode.
Anyways, go to %appdata% and start wiping anything thats unfamiliar, if you're not sure Google the stuff you're deleting. After that run Malwarebytes just to be safe. I'm trying to google around, but I'm not sure which words to google for exactly, since my windows isn't english and I haven't gotten around to figuring out language packs yet,

FF defaults to windows language setting and I'm not seeing anything in settings to change it.

I'm looking for a new music player. Right now I'm using one called Winyl and while it does it's job well, I'm always looking for better software to use.

So, is there any other, preferably cross-platform, that has this type of layout? As in, custom playlists to the left, songs to the right. I've grown quite attached to it since my old Spotify days. Most bigger cross-platform players I've looked at, like Clementine doesn't really seem to have it.

man I really need help with this

in c++, when I declare an integer, for example a[100]
what does this [100] mean? I really need help with this
I know integers are whole numbers, but I dont know what [100] is, I keep finding this in the code I am supposed to understand, but I just dont understand it at all
I know if it said a=100 it would mean that a has the value of 100 and so on, but I dont get what a[100] is
>>
>>54581155
That's an array of integers, probably.

Not sure about the complete code that you're looking at.
>>
>>54581181
Thanks!! I just googled array of integers and now it all makes sense.
English isnt my first language so this stuff is really confusing, I dont even know what the word array even means, I guess it just means elements that are continuous or something.

Despite having built my PC, I'm pretty tech-illiterate. I've had my 750ti for about 2 or 3 years now and want to upgrade to the 1080 or 1070 when they come out, however I'm worried my CPU, a AMD FX-6300, would bottleneck or something, or whatever the term is. Am I in the clear or should I also be ready to upgrade my CPU?
>>
>>54581214
An array of any given type is just a set of those things.

So if you have an array [100] of integers, you can store 101 integers within that piece of data.

Remember that the index of an array starts at 0.

So if I had an array that's storing 5 integers, I would have 5 numbers at indexes 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4.
>>
>>54581222
It will bottleneck, but you'll still see a big boost over the 750ti
>>
>>54581222
You should probably upgrade that CPU.

I had a 6300 and it bottlenecked a 2-gens back AMD card.
>>
>>54581061
My digital life forums, you will have to register probably.

Find the W7 thread with downloads, get the .iso get checksum and confirm it is unaltered, if I'm not mistaken there were instructions for this on the forum.

Then locate the Daz Loader thread on the same forum, get it, install W7, when it asks for a serial, just skip. When you're done installing it, launch Daz Loader and activate it.

The loader is foolproof, so probably you won't need more indications.

Speaking of all this Win 7 installation stuff.

I'm thinking of going back to 7 after using 8.1 for a while now. And I can't remember, if I do install Win 7, will it create the usual "Windows.Old" folder or does that only work when going from 7 to 8/10 and not in reverse?
>>
>>54581263
Sorry, I'm not familiar with C++.

Does an array declaration of 100 not go to index 100, or does it go to index 99?
>>
>>54581244
>>54581252
Okay, thanks. Do either of you recommend a certain CPU to uprage to thats AM3+?
>>
>>54581253
Thank you anon. I owe ya.
>>
>>54581284
The next logical upgrade would be an FX-8350, I would think, but I may be wrong on this.

I actually went through the same upgrade progression about 2 years back, but I'm on an i7 4790K now.

I almost wonder if it would be worth you saving more to do a mobo upgrade as well.
>>
>>54581280
I've yet to come a cross a language where you define the max index instead of the array size, where you got that from?
[100] means you can store 100 values, the index goes from 0 to 99
>>
>>54581297
Also. Might be prudent to keep it around. Sometimes(rarely), seemingly at random, it can go back to being non-genuine. So it's handy to keep it around.
>>
>>54581305
True.

Not sure what I was thinking.

>>
>>54581300

>>
>>54581337
>Shit, never happened to me but better safe than sorry.

As I said. It happens very rarely. But you just need to do another install of it and things will go back to normal again.
>>
>>54581340
The main thing is obviously the socket.

With an AM3+ board, you can only choose from those processors, which basically limits you to an FX-8350. The FX-9*** series sucks down energy and throws off lots of heat; they're inefficient, but powerful.

The only other real performance choke on a mobo is if the FSB(front-side bus) is for some reason rated at a very low clock. I'm not certain if this is an issue any more.

Currently have an old Dell Vostro 200 laying around with no real good use.

I was using it on the TV to browse the Internet but I rather not do that anymore.

It has a Pentium 1.8GHz CPU, and 1.5GB of RAM, also has a 150GB HDD. I have a 4TB Green drive that I can throw in there.

I am gonna upgrade it in the near future.

What can I put it to use for now? I don't want it to collect dust.
