OP here,
I typically find that ublock origin breaks sites that Ghostery does not, so when I have to whitelist a site in ublock for functionality, I retain the tracking protection of ghostery.

The only addon I use is ublock origin. Basically everything I need was incorporated into firefox or ublock origin or was optional to begin with and I just learned to live without it.

uBlock is pattern-based/cosmetic-based filtering (EasyList etc.), while uMatrix is matrix-based filtering.

yeah, I've actually read that post before. What I'm saying is that uMatrix does blocking that uBlock can't do. So why would you use uBlock at all?

uBlock Origin only exists, as gorhill even says, because it's easier. If you use uMatrix, there's literally no reason to use uBlock Origin.

Why would you have some sites blocked based on a pattern and some sites blocked base on a matrix? It gets really muddy. Why not block everything with one add-on, the more powerful one, uMatrix?
>>
>>54570747
>Why would you have some sites blocked based on a pattern and some sites blocked base on a matrix? It gets really muddy. Why not block everything with one add-on, the more powerful one, uMatrix?
Because sometimes you only want to block SOME elements of a type on the site.

Here's an example: what if the site you're visiting is hosting its own image advertisements? If you want to block those ads using uMatrix then you end up blocking ALL images on that subdomain, including the normal images that you want to see. With uBlock you can create rules to only block those ads and leave the other images alone.

Im not a shitposter I am trying to have a productive conversation about why uBlock is better but you are so self-important that you cannot possibly fathom you may be incorrect for once, just once, about a choice you made. If anything you are the shitposter because you advertising an unethical piece of spyware so you can buy more stupid shit you don't need.

I don't know what's in the ghostery filters because as far as I know they don't release them publically because they are an advertising company that doesn't want competitors, especially free, open filters like uBlock and uMatrix. With uBlock I can create, see, and use filters from others because the author isn't trying to advertise you anything.

Even if ghostery had better blocklists thats because they are stealing you and millions others data while trying to pose as a privacy company. uBlock is more efficient, faster, and lighter on data and resources than Ghostery (hence the "u") not to mention it being FLOSS. You aren't getting anything from using Ghostery you are losing your privacy and freedom.

Also who needs amazing filters anyway. As long as you aren't going to SUPERELITEAWESOMECELEBSEXTAPESTOWANKYOURCHODEOFFTO.dprk in 2006 you dont need these supposedly "superior" filters. stop wanking to tranny porn thats illegal in 11 countries.

Coming from years of Firefox (started with Phoenix) I recently got a MBR and try to stick with Safari. But the lack of proper Addons will be deal breaker I guess. So far I use:

SSL Always
Tampermonkey
JS Blocker 5
Adblock Plus
Syndicate

I especially miss HTTPS Everywhere, Self-Destructing Cookies, uBlock Origin and uMatrix, so I guess I won't stick with Safari forever.

Most useful extensions right here, really essential if you think about it:
AdBlock 2.57
Adblock for Youtube™ 4.1.0
Do Not Track 0.1.1
F.B Purity-Clean Up Facebook 14.7.0.29
Video Blocker 5.1
>>
>>54578168
and is also buggy.
i like it in concept but it barely works since it doesnt block HTTP requests.
plus it has a bug that has been reported since a long ass time and is on the github issue tracker that still hasnt been fixed.
in cases where you run software like ublock together with privacy badger.
privacy badger will think that it blocked something and display it as such but has not actually blocked it.

particularly this is an issue on chromium based webbrowsers.

if you're on firefox and you don't have vimperator you're fucking up your entire life.
>easily create tabgroups
>use hinting to switch tabs / select images / traverse pages
>tag the absolute shit out of pages with ease
>create macros to disable and enable plugins
the learning curve is not small but thats my one must have.

other than that just generally
something to block javascript / ads / xss / spoof referrers / spoof browser agent / delete lsos and persistant cookies

What does ublock orign do and why would i use it over RequestPolicy+Adblock?

Does it combine both in a lighter form?

Adblock is actual cancer
See "acceptable ads," and the other scummy ways they make money

ublock origin is freedom software with the same functionality, and is more lean.

Yes it uses scummy ways to make money but they also offer a way to disable their ways of making money if you so want in settings page.

And even with full blocking enable on adblock plus it won't force google to ban you twice a month for suspicious activity like ublock origin does, nor it would break most of internet.

Though I have an issue with it.
When I open the browser I have to re-import the custom headers to be able to use it.
