They seem to be pretty into GNU philosophy and minimalism.

What's your opinion on their software? Is it decent, or shitty? Do you use any of their software?

GNU philosophy is free software. Unix philosophy is everything does simple one thing and it does it well. Suckless is all FOSS, like the GNU philosophy, but the emphasis is on the Unix philosophy instead.
