'sup /g./. A friend's kid wants to me to build him a gaming PC for around $700. That's no problem, but he wants it to be able to run ARK: Survival Evolved. Everything I read on the forums makes it sound like you need a grotesquely powerful GPU to run that game.

Is this true? We were thinking a GTX960 for the CPU but if the internet is right we should be looking at a 970 or 980 which might start putting it out of his budget.

is horribly optimized. Think Crysis plus Minecraft.

Just get the best hardware you can in his budget, don't aim for performance in just one given game. He won't be playing ARK on it a year from now, and if he is it'll be better optimized (hopefully)
>>
You want a gtx 970 to play it at 1080p and have it look good. Just in case the information is useful, it's practically unplayable with a 550ti. My advice is to bump the budget up $100 or so and wait for a 1070.
>>
Buy used components. Got my 780ti for 220$
>>
look up the specs of the game he wants to play and compare it to http://www.logicalincrements.com/

good luck
>>
Ark is horribly optimised as it's still in an open beta. Even powerful gaming computers run it like shit (at least the last I checked) and it's likely that since so many retards paid for an unfinished game, that's all we'll ever get.

Probably your best bet, it runs OK on my 760
>>
>>54551392
gtx 970 would suffice

That's not a bad choice. I'd also recommend using an Asus Xonar Essence for the GPU.

Just wait until pascal is on the market and buy a used 970

It's ok OP you can admit it's for you

had to cut corners on the mobo and PSU
would be wiser to wait for polaris to get new stuff

this plus a 4690K with hyper 212 and OC it to 4.4Ghz. then pickup 2nd hand SSD ($30?) and a used hard drive ($40 for 1tb?). Case and optical drive you could probably get for free. Then pirate windows

I guess you're living in The Land Of The Free. Here in europe, a 780Ti still costs around 320 bucks...
>>
>>54552335
I live in france, got mine on a website similar to craiglist.
>>
>>54552286
Or maybe a mobo+ i7 2600k oc
>>
>>54552416
did you get it on leboncoin? I got mine a while ago on ebay for 300 bucks, a manli model.
what's yours?
>>
>>54552449
Exactly, leboncoin.fr ;) . I just negociated a bit and got this badass gtx 780ti asus cuII oc for 200€. Ebay is good tho but best prices are from local sellers. Coupled this 780ti with a i5 2500k oc, mobo, 8gbs of ram that i got for 150€
>>
>>54552489
jesus man, that's a heck of a good deal.
Here in Belgium, on 2ememain.be, people either sell totally overpriced shit or they sell totally fucked hardware. I'm getting an i7 990X and an asus micro atx mobo with SLI support, I seriously hope that the 780ti prices will fucking drop here.
>>
>>54552562
Good luck for you, hopping the prices will drop further with the gtx 1080 comming out

thank you mate
>>
Thanks guys. I was talking Nvidia because I remember back in the day AMD drivers were a nightmare. Looks like I can get a 780 for around $200 if that's worth getting.

>>54552094
Hell I just play World of Tanks. The kid wants it for Minecraft, Ark, and something called Rocket League.
>>
>>54553111
>>54552449 here, I can tell you, things have changed. Now NVIDIA drivers are "okay", if not a bit mediocre, while AMD drivers are getting better, not yet excellent but it seems to have a promising future.
Also, good choice on the GPU. Sounds good for this usage. And btw, rocket league runs on everything so don't worry about that.
