Ubuntu Desktops

I'm installing Ubuntu on my machine. Question is which desktop flavor to go with? I've tried KDE Plasma which is a buggy disaster. Just stick with default Unity? Gnome? Mate? Xfce? Which is the least sucky and gives a semi decent desktop experience? Opinions?
I just installed 16.04 and it's hot garbage. Very unhappy.

Whatever you like. XFCE and Mate are the most stable and functional DE around, but lack in features and have shitty compositors by default, especially XFCE. Try Xubuntu in live cd and see if you like it.

Unity is probably the best choice if you're a total normie
Gnome is a real favorite however by the bulk of Ubuntu users (the switch to Unity was fairly disliked by long-term users) and also has a sexy enough UI for normies
if you liked the UI of Plasma but your computer couldn't handle it check out LXDE
I run Xubuntu on my spare laptop because its the least resource-hungry variant of ubuntu

I run Xubuntu but after a few years IDGAF much about GUIs other than they are unobtrusive.
OP should do what everyone else does and try MULTIPLE desktop environments, but start off with Unity because it's popular hence plenty of help from others.
