Will video cards ever get smaller? For how long can they keep adding fans and heat spreaders until video cards are impractically large?
>>
no cause they keep adding transistors

Integrated video cards are your solution.

Graphics cards started getting bigger and bigger, then they got smaller and faster and we went back to bigger and bigger.

Except we are staying at about the same size.

I used to have an extended ISA video card, much longer than anything today,

You'll have outgrown gaming long before that time and gaming will be so infested with SJW shetwinks and beardgoons that you won't even miss it.

Aparentely we are going back to small cards.

Way longer.

Variable multiplier tech like SpeedStep was the only thing that saved our processors from overheating, esp. when applied to individual cores being on/off and single coore boost multipliers

It's a much more difficult challenge in GPU and VRAM design, but to power-off unused shaders, memory blocks and controllers, or entire pipelines across the entire card would reduce heat by a significant amount during the average use cases with heavy load cycling on and off periodically

There have been a few forays into this by all 3 gpu designers but nothing has come of it yet because current-gen cards can still be large enough to permit their integrated watercooling or solid copper bricks, etc.
