Can some server/internet guy help me?

My internet is failing every week for one day until I call them and they "fix" it. This hasn't been happening for 5 months, but the last month it has (I only have internet for 6 months with them).

So today he (their help person) says this happens when I reach my internet limit, 8 mb. Now, suddenly, I can only have 6 mb (or 5.7), anything more crashes connection (so he claims). He said everything is fine with them, issue CAN be on my side. He said he can call a service guy, but if he doesn't find a mistake I am the one paying for him.

This makes no sense. Why did it work fine first, now it suddenly doesn't? Can there actually be a mistake at my place? These people are retarded and rude, so I can't talk with them. Can anyone help?

who is them
what type of internet do you have (DSL, ADSL, Cable, Fiber, etc.)
with what company
what model modem do you have
what model router do you have (if not integrated in your modem)

it's hard to tell you what might be going wrong without context
