It looks like a keyboard with zero travel that lasts just long enough that you forget where the charger went

Fair enough about the cable, for those already in the ecosystem it's a good wireless keyboard

Why do dumb asses think less keyboard travel is good. Fuck this piece of shit. Also who owns a apply desktop they are a generation behind in hardware for twice the price at the best of times.

Yes, they do. My friend owns one. If you press on the touchpad in the bottom right corner it will (usually) rightclick.

T4xx keyboards are fucking terrible.
The plastic they use is cheap, so the spacebar WILL wear visibly, the keyboard flexes which hurts accuracy and the membranes they used are shit.

>>
>>54488692
He's right though. Products like an Apple keyboard are aimed exclusively towards Apple users. It's not aimed towards people who aren't using OSX on the desktop. They know that if you're an Apple user using OSX on the desktop, you'll probably want to but am Apple keyboard. If you aren't, then they don't care one way or another if you buy it. Stop acting butthurt that Apple markets Apple-brand peripherals to Apple users, it's just dumb.
>>
>>54488757
I just feel like the reason it's even called a "right click" is because of the 2-button format of mice and other input devices. What do macfags call it now?
Power Presses?
Super Clicks?
Dubs Cliks?

Left/Right clicks are pretty standard stuff, I don't see the point of messing with a system that clearly works.

Also I PC game and all games that use first person have some kind of binding to right clicking.

OK LISTEN UP.

I'm qualified to speak on the quality of Apple keyboards, being an Apple user since the ][ days.

The beginning of the end was the iMac days, and the ultimate discontinuation of the Extended Keyboard II. After this happened Apple stopped making 'real' keyboards - the Powerbook G4 Titanium was the last 'good' Apple keyboard.

Now the keyboards are glued together plates of plastic and aluminum, with NO long-term durability. I will not be risking what, probably at least $100 on another fuckin' wireless Apple keyboard that will break on me.
>>
>>54488363

Hot opinions. You still have those keys on the keyboard.

>White, which makes it prone to showing all dirt and collected fluff and hair
Black keyboards don't make the dust bunnies go away. Clean people won't have this problem.

>Doesn't have a backspace key, only delete
The delete key works as the backspace key. Fn+Delete = 'traditional' delete. If you've never used this key on one of these keyboards even enough to know the delete key works as a backspace key, I question your judgement.

>No End and Home buttons
End: Fn+Right

I can't find official documentation on it but people are saying that it works as a wired keyboard as well. As in, you not only can charge they keyboard when it's plugged in, but you can also disable bluetooth.

I have this babe from Microsoft and it's alright. It has its pros and cons. It's plastic, but it feels dense and premium. The whole thing is very light, but it's a fully featured keyboard with functional keys and numpad.

Pros:
- nice, silent typing, it's like a premium laptop keyboard
- very compact and light, nothing flaky or squeeky about it, I wished it had metal plating, tho, for more durability
-very easy to clean up, since the keys are nicely spaced out and tightly sealed, so crumbs, hair or lint doesn't get stuck around the edges
- it's has OK latency for desktop typing, if you're within a few metres from your desktop
- it stays paired with the device, even if you restart the OS, but only if you reboot in the same OS
- can be used with any modern device that runs Windows, Android or OS X/iOS, I tried it with my Android phone and it worked very well, so it makes for a good HTPC/tablet/mobile keyboard too, if need be
- it's black

Cons:
- the layout for Home/End, PgDn/PgUp, arrows is very weird, it's vertical, which makes it sometimes painful to touchtype fast and hit the right keys - I hope MS will fix this in a future model
- occasionally it goes idle, probably to save battery life (which MS says should last at least 6 months) - this might improve if it's positioned to sit right in front of its receiver - it's probably a common issue with wireless kbds which operate on low-power settings
- so it's not the best for gaming, unless you just play casually and you don't mind sometimes hitting a hotkey and getting some lag from it

It's also overpriced (99 bucks), but I got it for 69 bucks with a discount, and it includes a nice mouse. The mouse is nothing great, but it's a decent mouse to use casually with a laptop or HTPC.

Overall, it's much cheaper than the Apple one, it's black and it's fully featured. So, my point is, this babe has its pros and cons (meaning you compromise on some things) but it's still much better than the Apple one, which costs almost 2x.

The mouse comes with the set. I believe it's called microsoft Designer Bluetooth Mouse. I do not recommend buying it, it's about 29 bucks and it's not as good as Logitech mice. But I got it for free, it was part of the set, so I guess it's fine.

<== Here's a close-up pic with it.
It's very light to hold and has a very smooth surface. It's like a small boob.

Yeah, I have no use for it yet, but maybe I'll use it with an HTPC or just give it to my folks to use it with a laptop.

It's a very minimalistic mouse, it doesn't have any special buttons, but it does its job well, if all you need is a basic mouse for something.

Well, I used ethanol because it's also a disinfectant and it removes any grease marks. The plastic looks and feels very dense and robust.
It's not one of those cheap porous plastics that squeaks or chips easily.

I wished it had some metal plating, though, that's the only thing I like about the apple one, even though its back it's also plastic, they just don't show it in any ads, to make you believe it's all metal.

What do you need speed for your gay men?

Wireless tech is just fine these days.
>>
>>54490558
Windows Server has never kept the good ol' GUI, in fact they adopted Metro at the same time as Windows
>>
>>54502212
In the optimal case, it works fine. But you have to account for two things:

* Occasional interference: The wireless spectrum in any modern home is a very busy place. There /will/ be congestion at some point and you may not immediately realise your keyboard is to blame.
* Need to charge: This is self-explanatory. If it always sits next to a computer, why should I have to periodically charge it?

Also, all wireless solutions ARE higher latency than wired ones. But this may-or-may-not be detectable by humans and I don't have the data, so I won't try to argue it.

There is never a good reason for scissor switches on the desktop, and if you must use scissor switches for your product (laptop) placing them in island style is god awful. Island style keyboards may be thin and sleek looking but they are very uncomfortable for long typing sessions.

The internals and various software points have clearly changed. The at-a-glance appearance matters very little. Apple makes better scissor switches than anything Cherry sans rarer switches such as greens and clears as I've yet to try those.
>>
>>54503403
I am not a huge cherry person myself, and I do agree that apple's version of the scissor switch is better then other scissor switches; which makes it that much more of a shame they fuck up their keyboards with island style layouts.

My point is simply that scissor switches don't have a place on the desktop, as their intended purpose is to be compact to ensure the portability of a laptop. Scissor switches are well suited to laptops, but island style layouts are horrible everywhere. For a desktop you aren't limited by space constraints, so you want to get something more ergonomic so your typing experience remains comfortable during long typing sessions. Personally I think the model M still hasn't been beat when it comes to comfort.
>>
>>54503714
>My point is simply that scissor switches don't have a place on the desktop, as their intended purpose is to be compact to ensure the portability of a laptop

>>

>why should they not be used on the desktop?
Because while the switch is decent; no one to my knowledge manufacturers keys well suited to the desktop for that switch. You basically are limited to a laptop keyboard on the desktop which can get uncomfortable if you use it for extended periods of time.
>>
>>54503987

Any device with Windows 8/8.1/10, Mac OS X 10.10 or Android 4.4. So be it PC, tablet, laptop, smartphone, computer stick, htpc. Some people reported that they made it work with Windows 7 Enterprise edition, but normally Win7 is not supported.

I've no idea if you can pair it with more than one device at the same time. It might not make sense to control two devices using the same input, if you want to do different things. If that's what you meant.
>>
Oh boy, now even my keyboard can require another unique non user replaceable battery
>>
>>54504346
No there isn't anything like that. The only possible way to have a black metal low-profile keyboard like that is to buy a customised apple keyboard from Colorware, they can paint it any colour you want.

http://www.colorware.com/p-612-magic-keyboard.aspx

The final price is 199 bucks.

That's one of the reasons I bought the Microsoft one, even if it has its cons. First of all, I wanted a fully-featured keyboard, not tenkeyless, and secondly I wanted the most compact black wireless you could find on the market.

And this is the only one. Either this or the customised Apple one from Colorware, but you pay more than double the cost of the Microsoft one. 200 bucks for a minimalistic black keyboard seems kind of a dumb purchase, unless you're MKBHD and you don't give a shit about the money. Even then, you have a gimped small apple keyboard with their weird layout, no direct page down, no end key etc etc. All this for 200 bucks? Kek.

It's microsoft designer keyboard, but I don't recommend you to buy it. Maybe wait for the next generation, Microsoft might fix some issues. As I said, the layout is not optimal for touchtyping, it's a bit better than apple's but still not as good as a normal wired fullfeatured keyboard.
Also the performance is so and so. Most of the time is OK, but sometimes it may drive you nuts when you get a sudden spike of lag.
And it's overpriced if you buy it at Microsoft's price.

So, better wait for the next iteration which might get better performance. Or if you really want one, check ebay or a store that gives you a discount. 99 bucks is not really worth it.

It's a nice keyboard, just don't expect the performance of a wired, that's all. And you pay a lot for that.
