Why did ed2k die? It's one of the handful of truly p2p networks, no hubs, content indexing servers or trackers needed.
I can understand normies moving to torrents and DDL as they're only interested in the latest summer blockbuster or Kanye album and those offer faster speeds, but those services offer no file longevity at all. It's next to impossible to find a 3 year old torrent that still has seeds on public trackers, private ones aren't much better. File hosting sites are even more volatile, it's usually pointless to check links posted more than a couple of months ago.
Meanwhile I just fired up emule and a file I uploaded ~10 years ago is still there with 4 full sources. Sure it would probably download at 5 KB/s but I would get it eventually if I really wanted it. Is that not worth anything anymore?
