You should always buy the biggest ram modules for its generation regardless of what everyone says. i.e. 2gb sticks for DDR2, 8GB sticks for DDR3, and 16GB sticks for DDR4.

So then go buy some more.
What are you running that uses that much RAM anyway. Only time I get that high is when I run do work automation and open 50 tabs at once with JS running on all of then

Its because each tab and each extension in chrome runs as it's own process with its own working set of memory.

Well it's more stable than FF. If a chrome extension has problems, that specific extension can be restarted without effecting the rest of the browser.

This is not the case with FF or opera, where if you have something fuckup, and it needs to restart you most likely have to restart the entire browser.

Chrome doesnt just use more RAM for shits and giggles, though it can seem that way sometimes. Especially if you have an extension installed with a memory leak.

Makes sense. I've noticed FreeBSD/OSX/Linux only touch the pagefile if something seriously hammers the memory to it's limit (esp BSD, which avoids the pagefile at all costs) but Windows is crazy about paging things out-of-the-box. It's weird to me.

Holy shit. How many projects do you have open?
>>
>>54475062
My X99 board supports up to 64GB quad channel memory and has 8 slots, I have 4x8GB modules, why the fuck would I go for 2x16 GB when I'd max out my board at half the DIMMs? 8GB DIMMs is the ideal configuration.
>>

Is it bad that I read this as “How many pajeets do you have open?”?

people help!
have 8gb and windows 10
have 10-20 chrome tabs open and play a video game
I rarely used 7GB but when I play a game it sometimes interrupts and tells me to close programs. sometimes the game crashes.
i got an amd 2gb video card
does windows 10 just suck? can i turn off the notification?
>>

>>

anon thats 1.7gb
>>
>>54483971
Yeah, you'd lose half your memory bandwidth since x99 can use quad channel memory configurations.

I get ~62Gb/s memory bandwidth with 4x8GB DDR4 @ 3200mhz.
Good luck getting that with dual channel.

Obviously you retards don't need more than 8GB with your 10 year old low end computers while jacking off to sex horses. If you ever stop being poor and get actuall computer that can use 8+ and you actually get the $30 for another 8 gigs let us know.

Is this that one Dell monitor?
Also, how much CPU does mpv use for you? It always seems to hover around 40-50 for me in Activity Monitor, which as I understand it equates to 1/2 of one core (4 cores = total of 400, 1 core pegged at full = 100)
>>
>>54489432
It's an iMac.

I don't know how much mpv uses, but I stream over LAN so it probably uses a bit more than normal.

Windows 10 with the latest updates compresses memory when needed, it's a pretty useful feature. OS X also uses this method since memory in the mac is also very expensive.
