I feel your pain. I've got a HP pavilion dv6, the high performance mode makes the computer crash, it needs a cooling mat to not melt and trying to get any support whatsoever is pretty impossible.
I had to change the entire fan assembly awhile back since it started making a great impression of a rusty chainsaw. Although it's still functional enough to surf and view videos it can't play demanding games like it used to since the high performance mode crashes it.
I'll probably end up buying an X220 for surfing and a stationary computer for gaming.

What kind of cpu cooler do you have? Did you mount the cpu and apply paste yourself?
My 1st-gen i7 temps were around there under load, even hotter with the stock fan. Got a pretty cheap corsair h50 cooler for it and it never went above 60c again, idled ~35. Also if you fucked up the thermal paste (put too much on, uneven, way too little) it could drive the temps up a lot.

If it was under load in those pics I'd say you're fine, the i7s can handle over ~95c I think. Especially if you took that while your laptop was on your lap or blanket or something. It'll cool better when on a flat desk

m8 my 2007 macbook pretty much idles at 60 and jumps to 80ish under medium load. If I actually have it on my lap then it tends to shut itself off.
Newer hardware tends to handle higher temps better, especially mobile parts. My old i5s max temperature before shutdown is 95C for example and I ran it at 92C for months with no adverse effects.
