Is emacs any good? I have never used anything but vim.
Depends on how autistic you are tbdesu

Emacs has a vim mode. Spacemacs is like a completely built vim-Emacs mashup, it's probably the best editing suite I've used.
People complain about the speed of Emacs since it's basically a Lisp interpreter, but it's not a huge deal. Give it a shot, both vanilla Emacs and Spacemacs, see what works for you.
THIS THING HAS TETRIS HOLY SHIT

If you're autistic enough to think of your source files in terms of lisp output, then it's the most most powerful text editor out there

I still use DOS Edit, but one of my colleagues absolutely loves Emacs. The extensibility looks amazing.

What the hell is "lisp output"? Are you just talking about Lisp source code?
>>54469981
The output of scripts written in lisp...

Another long term VIM user here. 10+ years.
Considering Emacs. Not sure how to get started.

Okay, that's just Lisp scripting. You don't have to think of your source files as "lisp output". Lisp is pretty comfy for that, even if elisp is far from the best Lisp.

If you still want to keep Vi-like bindings then you should look into Evil mode. Same as with Vim, you just start with a built-in tutorial.
There's a starter pack called Spacemacs but it has a lot of extra crap on top of Evil/Vim bindings.

Loving emacs here... but like mentioned in some comments: EVIL is the way to go.
You know, best of both worlds. Extensibility AND modal editing.
M-x butterfly for the lulz.
