It depends on your system. I had problems with vlc throwing garbage on the screen in Windows on my laptop, but vlc running in Linux on my laptop works perfectly.

Maybe when it can out perform the Windows 10 Movies and TV app when it comes to video decoding. On my desktop it doesn't matter, but on my shiftily laptop it's the difference between being able to watch blu-ray quality video and watching a bunch of blocky vomit at 5 fps. (Yes, I've tried changing settings to prioritize performance.)
