Same reason typewriter keyboard layouts still exist
So it can be remapper to the super key on Model Ms

So I can remap it to esc for vim and feel superior to people who don't.
it has a use
it doesn't necessarily need to be in that position, but it has a used
[spoiler]old keyboards had that nice locking mechanism that would actually hold the key down
that was neat
