At the Nvidia Launch Event that happened yesterday, they talked about 1070's and 1080's performance, and how they compare to Titan X, 980ti and 980.

http://www.pcgamer.com/nvidia-gtx-1080/

https://youtu.be/3WnmZwChW_s?t=3m50s
>inb4 linus shill tips

>Reference 1070 performs better than a Titan X
>Reference 1070 performs better than a two way 980 SLI.
>DirectX 12 was kind of avoided, but apparently there is a 25% increase in performance compared to a Titan X or 980 ti.

>1070 specs:
6.5 TFLOPS
8 GB GDDR5
$379 MSRP
$449 Founders Edition
June 10th

>1080 specs:
2560 CUDA Cores
1607 MHz base clock
1733 MHz boost clock (can be overclocked to 2114 MHz)
9 TFLOPS Max
8GB GDDR5X at 10 GHz (can be overclocked to 11.016 MHz), 320 GB/s
180 watts TDP
67ยบ Celsius when overclocked
$599 MSRP
$699 Founders Edition

Looks pretty good imo

They just obseleted the entire current crop of GPUs. Like, all of them. They're all dead. Nice job NVidya.
>>
>>54427297
OP here, I really wanted AMD to at least compete with Nvidia in this generation of GPU's, but I guess we'll have to wait for Vega or something.
>>
>>54427321
They might still be able to compete on price, assuming the 1050 doesn't absolutely cream them. Which it probably will.

There won't be a next generation for AMD. They need to get a clean hit on NVidia and Intel this generation and it ain't happening. Zen doesn't look like it's going to be much better than Intel chips from 2 generations ago.
>>
>>54427357
I'm guessing the only thing AMD has left in terms of GPUs is DirectX 12 performance, which they seem to be pretty good at.
>>

Founder cards = reference cards

If you want vapor cooling to actually clock to 2.1ghz you need to fork the extra $100 bucks.

If you wait for OEM cards you'll have to pick up a worse cooling solution to pay the MSRP.

pretty sure a 980 or 970 will do anything you need at 1080p. i think you are just butt blasted
>>

That would mean that you can't buy a 1070 for $450 before tax. Which means $500 bucks after tax.

So the 1070 is pretty much a 980ti with $50 discount? kek.
>>
>>54427658
if you can't afford PC components you either need a better job or get a new hobby. I was buying mid range GPUs for ~400 euro for around 10 years now (on launch obviously. skipped only 400 series)

Are you simply disgracefully retarded or what? GPUs are NOT investments you fucking idiot. An investment is something that is gonna earn you money in the long run. Now it's nvidia's fault they are releasing better products because you think you're such hot shit that the entire industry should stall itself? Yeah, let's contact all the developers out there and tell them that pushing things forward hurt our collective fee fees and therefore nothing should advance anymore.

I can't fucking believe this is the current state of this board. This board should have at the very least slightly above average people to talk about technology and yet this shit is what we get. Unfuckingbelievable.

>>
Nvidia is such a jew that the MSRP for their household cards is above the one for their custom board partners.
>>
>>54428065
someone needs to untighten their undies

i think people are upset that a card that cost a minimum of $650 that isn't even a full year old since release is getting dethroned by a $350 level card. most people wouldn't be as upset if it at least matched it, but according to nvidia, it will be slower.

i can understand that feel. even the 580 didn't lose that level of value when the 680 came out and the 580 was out A LOT longer than the 980 ti before its successor. what's even more depressing is that the 1080 isn't even the 980 ti successor. go to nvidia's own 1080 page and they proclaim its the successor to the standard 980. massive hint a 1080 ti is over the horizon.

I starting to think AMD does not really care to compete with Nvidia. I think AMD is just trying to make a good GPU at this point. Maybe when they have a solid and efficient card they can look to compete on the high end. They have the console market and are aiming for the Laptop market. (My opinion) Random Pic

AMD cards have already been confirmed to be 980ti level at 100W power draw and $300 MSRP.

They still compete, but at the market segment where they can sell 10x the amount of cards - higher yields, OEMs, etc.

Straight up performance isn't always what makes the best product.

The iPhone 4 has shit reception when compared to Motorola phones, and most Motorola phones have superior cell connection.

Sound quality wise on calls? Have you heard people on the other end when they are talking through an iPhone, especially anything under the 5s? It sounds like pure garbage, it's very muffled.

did you have any doubt that there wasn't going to be a Ti variant?

Ok, the first around it was just a revision and it was pretty cool. But now, they figured out that if they follow in the game devs bussiness practices and launch the unfinished product and charge a bit more for the dlc later. they'll make a killing twice more per annum And in their case they charge far more for the 'dlc'.

Seriously this isn't cool. This practice really merits a boycott.

well technically its not a stock cooler.

nvidia didn't release one this time around. instead they are releasing their own "founder cards" which are sorta a special edition card that's capable of achieving 2ghz and comes equipped with nvidias vapor cooled solution.

regular oem cards won't be guaranteed to hit nor boost to 2ghz and will use whatever cooling solution they choose.

It's dishonesty, plain and simple.

Instead of spreading their SKU's organically, they artificially spread it over time (against their own product sheet) and turn what should be the **60 and **50 into **70 and **80. If they were 'fair' what we know as mid-low range 50's and 60's would sit cosily there at the hight end without cannibalizing each segment. Yes, this would rearrange their entire product list especially at the low end, but it would be far better than this blatant greed.

AMD only improved on power efficiency and therefore simply catched up to the Maxwells.

Reminder that to translate nvidia-released benchmarks into benchmarks that apply in this universe you have to halve them. Halve the improvements.

So if they claim 2x, it's 1.5x.

In before someone calls me an AMD fanboy, I don't care if you believe me or not, just remember I said this so when the actual benchmarks come out you'll realise that I was right and you should stop taking AMD/Nvidia released benchmarks seriously.

they never said that

they said in some situations the 1080 is faster than two 980's in sli. not a 1070.

which is understandable considering two 980's in sli are on average 20% faster than a single 980 ti. which nvidia claiming a 1080 will offer 20-25% increase in performance outside of vr, a 1080 can be 5% faster than two 980's in sli in games that offer decent scaling like witcher 3 and battlefield 4. in average or poor scaling we can have upwards to 30% faster (there are already instances where a 980 ti is faster than two 980's in sli due to poor scaling).

going off of nvidia's claim of 20-25% with the 1080 vs the 980 ti, take the traditional 15 - 20% reduction that the x70 series uses get, that puts a 1070 anywhere from exactly to upwards to 5% to 10% faster than a stock, reference 980 ti.

considering its hard to find a 980 ti on the market today that isn't factory overclocked, the 1070 will generally be as fast as a regular oem 980 ti such as evga 980 ti ftw.

the 1080 is a great card but fails horrible with what people were proclaiming. its not the 50%+ increase people were sprouting. 20% is nothing. if you own a 980 ti its a waste of money to upgrade to the 1080. wait for the 1080 ti. there is a reason why nvidia is proclaiming the 1080 is the successor to the standard 980 and not the 980 ti. even their benchmark shows the 1080 vs the 980, not the 980 ti. 1080 ti is on the horizon.

if you're on a 970 / 980 or lower its a fantastic upgrade.

the 290x out performs the 980ti in dark souls 3.
coincidentally, any "legit" benchmark you see comparing both cards with dark souls 3 will give a higher average FPS ito the 980ti. but this does not reflect how the 290x actually does a better job rendering the "heavy" areas which cause lag.
this is a dx11 game with nothing special or fancy. there is no reason the 980ti should fail here.

and the 290x actually beats the 980ti in all tested games which are designed for dx12

>>
>>54429290
that was my first thought as well when i herd that.

to be honest, i think its called founders edition because yields will be low until july. gddr5x according to micron isn't going into full production until mid summer and gddr5x is post to offer 12gbps to 14gbps for its standard. nvidia is only using 10gpbs chips. that means nvidia:
>rushed pascal to beat amd to the punch
>using 10gbps because current yields of higher performing gddr5x is low
>10gbps gddr5x is cheaper than 12 and 14gbps but still faster than standard 7gbps gddr5
>reason why 1080 has a 180 watt tdp, 20 watts higher, was because they wanted to ensure a higher than 10% increase over the 980 ti. polaris actually has them scared.

either that or pushing pascal higher than 1.8ghz requires water cooling and if you want that level of performance in an air cooled card you need vapor chambers.

really though i do believe in:
>reason why 1080 has a 180 watt tdp, 20 watts higher, was because they wanted to ensure a higher than 10% increase over the 980 ti. polaris actually has them scared.

if amd is able to do what they claimed, offer 980 ti level of performance at 100 watts, amd has nvidia beat in energy efficiency. amd technically could offer a 1080 level card at 120 - 130 watts.

Nvidia, AMD, intel, doesn't matter, they all mislead people when it comes to performance improvements. Just like when Intel says up to 30% performance improvement, what they actually mean that in a specific artificial benchmark their new generation performs 30% better, in practice you're getting 5-10% improvement.
>>
>>54429392
Emulators are more greedy than a PC game by design anyway, but considering the consoles you're talking about I'm thinking (not sure) that your CPU will matter much more. Also:

the problem is nvidia never clarified if those benchmarks against the 980 with the 1080 was either with the founders edition or stock version. nvidia live stage presentation was with a founders 1080 edition.

this is crucial because the 1080 standard is 1.6ghz core with a 1.7ghz boost while the founders was 2.1ghz boost.

for all we know standard 1080's could be lower than the 20-25% increase over a 980 ti as they claimed. faster, but not 20% faster.

its interesting to note it takes a vapor chamber to cool the 1080 enough to run at 2ghz+. the card ran at 67c on stage at those levels with a vapor chamber. we all know they had that room air cooled at or below 70 degrees (21c). live in a normal environment like socal? your room could be a comfy 78 - 80 degrees (25c - 26c). pascal could be hidden house fires.

She handled the crisis far better than any of her peers. Germany is strong than it ever was with the influx of more workers, especially since they needed to expand their population to keep pace with their growing GDP. Those minor incoveniences would have been unavoidable in any other country, but they did not get out of hand like the racist right would have you believe. They are all isolated incidents centered around people who were criminalized when they arrived in the country from a lack of economic opportunity. And that's because of white racism in the German populace.

So, the same thing as every company ever does?
>>

No, the 1080Ti is going to be for 4K and only if its at least 50% faster than the Titan X.
>>
>>54429761
it should be about a 25 to 20% boost over the 980ti.

I say its good enough for 4k now but probably not in the future

Companies don't operate on short term plans. They are looking at least 2-3 years ahead. And if you look at what's coming you realize that AMD is about to become a serious threat to them. Maybe not this year but next year with Vega for sure.

And then NVidia releases a 1080Ti which is basically already hinted at. They know, we know, and AMD isn't breathing down anyone's neck unless they release Polaris with 980Ti performance in two months.
