I have to do same because mine started to crash down all the time and nothing works properly. Example taking picture takes about 5s and all other shit.

Carbon ROM is very good. I use it for a year now and it works properly.

Usually, a stock ROM (debloated if any bloatware installed) with a few tweaks / mods to the OS, xposed installed, and a custom kernel that helps increase performance as well as battery life. Look for a good stock based ROM with a undervolting kernel. Custom Roms tend to be buggy.

Currently running Synthetic Dirty Unicorns, battery is amazing, probably the smoothest I've used too. Check it out.
