some popular (and very well deserved to be) brands that I know of are sennheiser, audio technica, and of course bose. A more obscure brand is denon but they have solid products as well. You can't really go wrong with any of these 4 but really it depends I guess on what you want to use the headphones for or what kind of sound you want. Stay the fuck away from any thing with Dr. Dre in front of it. You will extremely over pay. I haven't heard anything about creative though so I guess I can't answer your second question.

Really good bass, portable, fold, removable cable and extremely sturdy and have that "dj beat tracking" mechanism in the earcups similar to beats which is great when you need situational awareness but don't want to completely take them off..
Overall I'm pretty happy. Grabbed them for 50% off from a local music store and I don't regret it.
Anyone have status ob-1? Any thoughts on them?
