It's not that different... Back when this was written, it was in comparison to Yahoo and shit, who still have tons of bloat on their homepage.
I mean, yeah, they have ads now, but those are only as a few sponsored links within the results. Google still loads faster than any other search engine that I've seen, and you can't say that it's actually cluttered.
>>54364850

"In a lot of cases, the message is a left over from Legacy times.
These days, with PS2 key boards and intelligent controllers it's not possible to swap keyboards without doing a reboot anyway, even most USB ones have to be swapped and then re-powered if a boot error occurs.
However, back in the day when the whole PC revolution started up, keyboards where known as "XT or AT keyboards" (Depending on the style) and most of them had a physical pretty dumb connection.
Also in most of these devices, the keyboard controller itself wasn't really all that smart, first off it was usually actually on the PC main board itself, rather than in the keyboard (as they tend to be today) so the keyboard itself was really pretty dumb, and if an actual physical keyboard fault occurred, then often unplugging it, plugging in a working one and following the instructions got you going.
Hence in many cases, this was something that could actually be obeyed as long as the fault was indeed an actual keyboard fault."

no, they are formats which include algorithms
formats specify what order data comes in and what is optional and necessary, and deals more with higher level concepts
a baselevel algorithm simply tells how to deal with a data stream (in this context) and does not deal with abstract concepts, simply is a set of steps that are specific and explicit
tl;dr formats are concepts, algorithms are specific

The old shit sometimes would not recognize what was plugged in and prompted the user for input. This prevent a computer being totally un-bootable when your off-brand keyboard wasn't happy with the world. Then it progressed to plug the keyboard in as whatever you boot isn't going to be of any use to you if you don't have a computer, so I'll stop here. You didn't want to hit the OS since hard boots were slightly dangerous for the hard drive and generally this would prevent the older hard drives from becoming unparked.

>IRENE system
Installed in the Library of Congress late in 2006, the IRENE System uses a two-dimensional camera rotating around the record, which takes detailed photographs of the grooves. Software then uses the digital images to reconstruct the sound. IRENE often produces a large amount of hiss with the recording, but it is very capable of removing pops and clicks produced by scratches on the record surface. IRENE will only read lateral information (monophonic), but a three-dimensional scanner project is underway that will handle stereophonic and quadraphonic records, in addition to historical hill-and-dale recordings.
