>Flattr and AdBlock Plus have announced a new partnership to create Flattr Plus.
>Flattr Plus is an adblocker that automatically gives payments to visited websites.
>A user selects the amount of money they contribute for the month and then at the end of the month the money is split between the publishers they've visited.

cool
flattr is a stupid name tho so I won't even consider
>>
>>54356812
Pay for the adblocker, which will "make" payments to visited web-sites? Yeah, right, that doesn't even sound like a financial pyramid for complete retards.
>>
And not to mention that this scam would be the biggest tracking botnet ever. As it's not only going to track and log on it's own servers the web-sites which are visited from the specific IP and MAC, but it will also have full information about the user thanks to the built-in payment.

Please, tell me this is a joke.

Could be useful in forcing websites to not interfere with ad blockers. Should be a requirement to participate. Is it?

I wish for an adblock, that would block the ads, but give them '10 hits' each in code. That way, the ads stay hidden and skipped, but they get their hits and watches.

I bet this sounds like communism.

Brave is ad replacement. And has 0 users. This will probably be pushed to the millions of ABP users eventually.
>>
A solution that would still pay the website owner and cost the user nothing would be loading the ads but hiding them.

Actually this thread is fucking stupid if you think about it.

>>

that made my inner nerd mad
>>
>>54357322
that's a terrible solution. One thing that ads are bad for is because they are tracking, if you load them, they will still track you.
>>
>>54356812
How can I trust them?
>>
>>54356812
I'm all for this, and indeed any solution that deflects attention away from paywalls and blocks. I'll just keep sitting here using uBlock Origin and the retards who get on board with this pay my way. I don't see why anybody wouldn't encourage this.
>>
>>54357440
When you use the solution in the OP you are also getting tracked. Otherwise they wouldn't know who has to get paid.
They even get your payment information, which is even more personal than just your advertisment profile alone.
>>
>>54357508

It doesn't mean it's useful in the real world. Money, and specially fiat currencies, have any worth because everyone agree it has worth. Until it's accepted everywhere, it's not real money.
>>
>>54357631
Well, it has some value and is accepted in a sense that you can sell them for basically any currency you wish, so it is a money. Stability is another issue.

There are multiple projects for automatically clicking hidden ads to help the website owners. I don't know if any are still active though.

So just what uBlock Origin does?

This doesn't seem so bad, isn't this business model preferable to ads? As long as it's libre software, and allows you to cherrypick which sites you donate to, this sounds like a positive thing.

The cocksuckers who made this should be made public and then get flamed. I am not gonna donate to any bullshit website. If you show me something on the internet and don't require something like a login (payed) then fuck off or risk that people block your ads. In the end, we all know why there are just a few sites with login (payed), because nobody is going to pay to fucking log in. Now I am angry.

>Eyeo dev
I'm actually a uBlock Origin user, I'm just not selfish. I block ads because they're annoying and often malicious, not because I refuse to fund anything. I'm not seeing a problem with this. It's not like anyone will make you install it.
>>
There is no way to fix the adblocking "problem", advertisers dug themselves into a hole they can no longer climb out of.
>>
How hard is ublock to learn how to use from Abp? I like using no script and request policy

If your site runs on ads you should probably kill yourself.
>>
>>54356822

Does uBlock Origin get around sites that detect ad blockers, then block you (e.g. Forbes and Wired.com)?
>>
>>54363967
you need to enable the custom filter lists, reeks mainly. Forbes needed the greasemonkey version of it for me, wired just werks. Use uMatrix too, disallowing javascript breaks some anti-adblock things.

This. Bear in mind that website owners that rely on ads to survive on the net have no worthy content on their site, they have to import content of worth via advertisement firms.
Webadvertisement is a whole bullshitteryfuckup in itself.

To be honest, I've got no better solution myself tho.

Nope. uBlock blocks them the same way ABP does, preventing the browser from loading them, and not at the DNS level. If it was DNS level lists a hosts file, you couldn't block paths within a domain.
>>
Flattr takes 10%. Processing fees are out of Flattr's slice. ABP owns 15% of Flattr company in exchange for access to user base.

Why does /g/ pretend to be in favor of donation "model"s when clearly they just want shit for free?
>>
>>54370648
Donation models probably work under the 20/80 rule, where 20% of customers provide 80% of the business with its income.
>>
>>54370648
/g/ isn't one person.
You are in fact interacting with thousands of different people here, you autist.

>blocking ads at dns level
>>
making money from advertising is today an deprecated concept. it will only result in the following;
>you annoy your current customers
>you scare away potential customers
>you'll get a bad reputation

in 2016 there's only two ways to make real money on the internet
>sell physical products
>offer an online service behind a paywall

if people ain't willing to pay cash for your product/service, it's because it's either an unwanted solution to an non-existent problem a poor imitation of something that already exists
>>
i block all ads because the profit motive is bad.
